This post is brought to you by our good friends at The Pressing Issue! If you need comics pressed, cleaned, or sent in for grading, Mike is your man!
Hello again, friends!
Occasional shop boy Jeremy Mundy here with the STAFF PICKS for the week of 9/30/26!
AvX! But not THAT AvX!
A new beginning for an old franchise!
A “Will it sophomore slump?” check in!
A personal favorite hits a milestone!
POSSIBLE LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Here we go…

From Marvel Comics
ALIEN VS. X-MEN 1! Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Geraldo Borges provide one of the most brutal and unexpected opening scenes in recent memory! It's simply disaster after disaster from there. Wolverine's part in this story seems to be interesting and tragic. And, it's always fun to be reminded that Xenomorphs take on the traits of the organisms in which they incubate. We also get a short backup story that's just…confusing. Hopefully, that gets sorted out along the way.

From BOOM! Studios
HELLRAISER: RESURRECTIONS - THE RETURN OF THE PRIEST 1! The final installment in the series of one-shots reintroducing Clive Barker's Cenobites! This has been a hell of a ride! Sorry. Anyway… This issue focuses on Pinhead, his journey to reclaim his pain, and his place as the High Priest of the Order of the Gash! The writing by Sarah Gailey (Neighborhood Watch, EC titles) is super dark, and the art by Alessio Avallone is appropriately moody and grotesque.

From Image Comics
HAMMERFIST 2! The superstar team of Remender and Epting blew me away with the first issue! The second chapter slams the pedal to the metal! Now that Mike is a fugitive from the entire weirdo culty town, there's nowhere to run, and nowhere to catch his breath! And why does everyone seem to know him?! Hand-to-hand fighting, gun play, car chases…it's like John Wick on m**h, with a dash of the supernatural thrown in. No rest for the wicked, indeed. NO SLUMP DETECTED!

From Image and Ghost Machine
GEIGER 25! Ghost Machine's flagship title hits 25 issues! Geoff Johns has built one hell of a universe in the Unnamed line of books. The journey of Tariq Geiger, the “Glowing Man,” has been full of struggles and strife, with only brief glimpses of joy, but it's that pull to do the right thing, even when he doesn't want to, even when it complicates his own life, that keeps him moving forward, and keeps us coming back issue after issue. Artist Gary Frank is one of the best in the business. And, they have a secret weapon: the colors of Brad Anderson. He truly makes the Glowing Man glow, and the bad guys’ blood flow! If you've ever been on the fence about this book, it comes with my highest possible recommendation. We can order the trades to get you caught up!

⚡ SHE'S ALIVE! ⚡

Okay, horror fans — THIS ONE has our attention.

Coming just in time for Halloween:

UNIVERSAL MONSTERS: THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN LIVES #1

The latest entry in Skybound/Image Comics' excellent UNIVERSAL MONSTERS line puts one of the most iconic characters in horror history center stage.

And LOOK AT THIS BOOK. 😍

Writer Kelly Thompson and artist Mattia De Iulis are taking us back to the world of the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein — but this time, the story belongs to THE BRIDE.

In the original film, the Bride is one of the most unforgettable images in horror history... despite actually appearing for only a few minutes.

So what happens if she survives?

Who is she?

Who was she BEFORE Frankenstein?

And what about the women whose bodies were used to create her?

That's the story Thompson and De Iulis are setting out to tell.

Thompson recently explained that while the original movie is really the Creature's story, those few incredible minutes with the Bride practically demand a story of their own.

Now she's finally getting it.

And artist Mattia De Iulis summed up their approach perfectly:

"We are finally giving the Bride the center stage."

If you've seen De Iulis' artwork before, you already know why we're excited. The pages we've seen from this book are GORGEOUS.

And then there are the COVERS.

⚡ Mattia De Iulis
⚡ Joshua Middleton
⚡ ARTGERM
⚡ Luana Vecchio
⚡ Rosemary Valero-O'Connell
⚡ Christian Ward
⚡ David Talaski
⚡ Ryan Sook

There are regular covers, incentive covers, foil covers and even Ryan Sook's wonderfully ridiculous die-cut foil "Hairiant" cover celebrating that legendary Bride hairstyle.

This is a 4-ISSUE LIMITED SERIES, so you aren't signing yourself up for another 75-issue commitment.

Issue #1 arrives:

🎃 WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28 🎃

That's THREE DAYS BEFORE HALLOWEEN.

Regular editions start at $4.99, with select special covers at $5.99.

And here's the important part:

WE'RE TAKING RESERVATIONS NOW.

Our final order deadline is approaching, and we'd much rather order a copy for you than tell you we're sold out after release.

Want one?

Comment below, message us, call the store, or stop in and tell us:

⚡ "SAVE ME A BRIDE!" ⚡

And if there's a particular cover you want, LET US KNOW.

After 16 years in business, we're still suckers for a beautiful comic book — and this one looks absolutely fantastic.

This post is brought to you by our good friends at The Pressing Issue! If you need comics pressed, cleaned, or sent in for grading, Mike is your man!
Hello again, friends!
Occasional shop boy Jeremy Mundy here with the STAFF PICKS for the week of 9/16/26!
Everything old is new again!
A new series and a new special that celebrate some classic IP, and new story arcs for two of the best books on the stands!
POSSIBLE LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Here we go…

From Mad Cave Studios
ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK: ESCAPE FROM CHICAGO 1! In what may be the clunkiest title of the week, Snake Plissken is back! In 2006, Chicago, like many large cities, has been walled off and turned into one giant prison. Snake acts as a coyote, helping people sneak in and out. Snake's one rule: he does NOT go into the city. However, he receives a message from someone connected to his past that may turn his way of life upside down! Writer Kyle Higgins perfectly captures that antihero with a heart attitude we know and love. Artist Val Rodrigues, and colorist Natalia Marques, show us a grim and gritty future that never was.

From Marvel Comics
THE MUPPETS TAKE THE MARVEL UNIVERSE 1!
The Muppet Show is 50, and so am I! Mojo decides he needs The Muppet Show for himself, so he kidnaps Rolf. The Muppets recruit Marvel's best heroes to help rescue their friend, and get out of this jam! I honestly didn't expect much from this one-shot, but it was a deceptively charming read. It features some well balanced team-ups, and genuinely funny bits! (Starhammers! Who knew?) If you grew up with the Muppets like I did, pick this one up. It's really fun!

From Image Comics
FERAL 26! After a month off, Fleecs, Forstner and Rodriguez return with “Alone!” After escaping the testing facility, Elsie is wandering in the wilderness, completely alone, except for a huge spirit cat that reminds her of her many failures. It all feels very Lion King, like that part where Simba was visited by the spirit of Mufasa. But is this real, or has Elsie lost it? Feral is one of my favorite series, and I see no indication of that stopping anytime soon! Highly recommended!

From DC Comics
ABSOLUTE BATMAN 24! If you spend any time online at all, you already know this is the debut of Barbara Gordon as THE BAT! We also get one hell of a showdown between Bruce and a certain skinny someone, and Pennyworth answers to his superiors. Sort of. Like most issues of this series, it is packed and stacked! Snyder and Dragotta haven't touched the brakes yet!
