Bird of the Week, the Rufous Hummingbird! These busy little birds are making us smile during the summer. From when they arrive after their long journey from Mexico until the time when they fly south again, which is right now.

The Bird of the week, a juvenile female Black-headed Grosbeak on our Maple Tree. It's always fun seeing the young and we know that they like our mixed habitat of deciduous, Cedar and Fir trees, and shrubs like Salal and Blackberries!

The Red-tailed Hawk is one of our most common hawk but always fun to see. The quickest ID for adults seems to be made by the tail, especially when the bird is flying. But it can be more difficult when you encounter a different morph, a juvenile, or a different regional variation! Photos by Rosi
