π» As bear season gets underway, we thought weβd share a few of our thoughts. We recognize that hunting bears brings out a lot of different emotions in people β even among those of us who fully support hunting.
Bear hunting is legal, regulated, and an important part of wildlife management. We understand and respect that.
Hunting has been a way of life here in East TN for many generations. But bears can feel a little different.
For many of us, seeing black bears in our area is still relatively new. Weβve watched their population grow and are excited to catch a glimpse of one crossing a field or wandering through the woods. And living here in East Tennessee, with the Smoky Mountains practically in our backyard, bears have always held a special place in our hearts. We grew up with Smokey Bear, family trips to the Smokies, and that iconic black bear being part of what makes this area feel like home. π»β€οΈ
So as pictures and stories from successful hunts are shared, we (the Sport Shop) respect the hunter, recognize the necessity of responsible wildlife management, and understand why people may feel a little sadness when they see a harvested bear. We feel those feelings too, and they donβt have to contradict each other. As young people say βwe can have all the feels!β
Thereβs beauty in being connected by the outdoors β we can appreciate wildlife, respect conservation, and respect and honor each individualβs decision of what they choose to hunt; recognizing that either choice is not wrong.
Just wanted to share our take on all of this!
We wish a safe and responsible season for all of our hunters β and continued respect and love for the incredible wildlife in these mountains we are blessed to call home! π»π² π¦ π¦ π¦ πΏοΈ π
