Started as Duran Band Instrument Repair in Swink, CO in the late 1980's, it was moved to La Junta a few years later. The name was changed to Joyful Noise Music in 2002 when the business was expanded to include sales of instruments and accessories. We service school bands and all musicians in the entire lower Arkansas Valley and beyond; from Aguilar to Springfield, Karval to Kim. We've provided a b
ooth inside Vendors Gallery to serve the Lamar area full-time, and another in La Junta's Junction 50 Galleria to catch downtown traffic. What we don't stock in our small space, we are happy to special order. While finishing her final year of a Bachelor's degree in Business Management at University of Colorado, Cindy made the decision that music retail was the right fit for her. To gain some experience, she applied to several music stores in Colorado Springs and was hired right away by A&A Music. She also inquired about an instrument repair apprenticeship, for which she was put on a waiting list until a position came open. That finally happened during the last semester of her senior year, and she spent the next year and a half learning instrument repairs from Verne Rice, until Meeker Music hired her to manage a shop in Monte Vista. Cindy worked 2 years in that position, but left after getting married. She has continued repairing instruments ever since, even while she stayed home to raise her children. With nearly 30 years music retail and instrument repair experience, Cindy feels very comfortable in all areas of the business. The most gratifying aspect, in her opinion, is introducing beginning music students to their new instruments, and watching their excitement! Maybe it is such a highlight because it reminds Cindy of the joy she felt the day her dad took her, as a 5th grader, to the music store to buy her very own clarinet, which she still plays to this day. This leads to the reasoning for the business name. Joyful Noise Music is based on the Bible verse, Psalm 100:1-2 "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you nations!" It is easy to relate to the noise a beginning musician makes which may not be particularly musical, but is most certainly joyful!
