‼️BREAKING NEWS‼️July 3rd is Sno Biz of Lafayette’s last day open. At this point, it is undetermined whether Sno Biz will reopen at some point in the future. I have accepted an Assistant Professor position in Texas, and I am moving to Texas next month.
Although, I am saddened and excited, I am also grateful. Over the last four years, I have looked forward to serving you. I have seen so many families grow from no children to multiple children, from being single to being engage/ married. It has filled my heart to know that I offered a product to the community that people want and support.
When I moved here in 2014, I had no idea I would start and run a business. I thought I was only here to earn my Ph.D., which I did in 2023. But I also missed the shave ice from my home of Mississippi. God gave me a vision, and I acted on it. From the very beginning, there were times I did not know how the business would work out. But God always worked it out for me.
The lessons I have learned at Sno Biz are much bigger than business operations. I have learned to have speak up for myself, I have learned to be patience, I have learned to negotiate, I have learned to lead by example, but most of all I learned to have faith and trust God’s plan for my life.
The position I have accepted is perfect for me. It will allow me a break as I have been overworking myself for over a decade, and my health has started to decline. This position will also allow me to be closer to my mom who many of you have met. I am so thankful that the last two years she has willingly given up her time and freedom to come and help me with Sno Biz. This position is also perfect for me because the university desires someone with real experience to teach the upcoming generation. I am not just a business owner, realtor, or landlord; I am also a published author and an academic. I do not just teach theories from books. My research and my teaching are reflective of my experiences. I am grateful for this opportunity and the new journey where I can combine all these different elements about myself and serve the public in a distinct way.
I look forward to seeing you all during our last week of business. However, if I do not see you before I leave, just know that I am thankful to each and every one of you.
