Cavalier House Books - Lafayette Cavalier House Books bought Beausoleil Books in the summer of 2024! We are excited to broaden our mission and to support Lafayette's booky, bookish community!

Beausoleil will remain part of the CHB-Lafayette identity as we continue to curate bestsellers, perennial favorites, books in French, books by diverse authors, and locally made products! In the Summer of 2024, Cavalier House Books in Denham Springs became the new owners of Beausoleil Books in Lafayette thus beginning Cavalier House Books - Lafayette! Beausoleil Books will remain a part of the CHB-

Lafayette identity in that we will continue curating a collection of best-sellers, perennial favorites, books in French, books by diverse authors, and locally made products!

Roux is headed back to school just like YOU! 🎒

We recently celebrated *Roux’s First Day* with Julie Gerdes Becnel and Cullen Bernard in the bookshop!

Julie and Cullen, the illustrator, led us through a storytime and fun arts and crafts. We also had so much fun on a froggy scavenger hunt around the bookstore!

*Roux’s First Day* is a picture book following Roux on her first day of school. Roux is very nervous at first, but once she meets new friends and learns school is the **cypress knees,** she really enjoys her first day!

💖We’re swooning over our Bookstore Romance Day plans on Aug. 15 💞 CHB Lafayette will be open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. for an all-day Romance celebration! 

💝At 3 p.m., local authors R.S. Egan and Kat Mackenzie will be in the bookshop to chat about their novels! R.S. Egan recently published *They’re Playing Our Song,* and Kat Mackenzie’s titles include *Work in Progress* and *Experiments in Offline Dating* (releasing on Aug. 25).

🚙We’re also partnering with Book Club & Co. and The Book Rack of Acadiana for Lafayette’s Indie Bookshop Hop! Start at any location to grab your bookmark passport and first stamp, then hop over to the bookshops in town to collect your stamp. Once you’ve collected a stamp from each location, you’ll be entered into a raffle! Keep an eye out for more details about our 3-shop raffle.

✨The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with crafting stations in the bookshop and the bookshop hop!

CHB Lafayette is welcoming Barry Ancelet for a rescheduled reading and Q&A at 5:30 p.m. on August 7!

Barry, a Louisiana native and French-speaking Cajun, will read from and talk about his latest collection of poems and images *Jamais assez de becs*, released under his name and his nom de plume, Jean Arceneaux. The collection offers “a moment of tenderness and beauty,” said Mathé Allain, who wrote the introduction. 

Seats are limited so please secure your ticket for the event through Bon Temps Tix – general admission is free! You can also pre-order your copy of *Jamais assez de becs* by 11:59 p.m. on August 6. Books will be available at the event!

CHB Lafayette’s July Book du Mois is The Deep by Rivers Solomon!

We’ll gather at 6:15 p.m. on July 30 at CHB Lafayette. 

Synopsis: 
Octavia E. Butler meets Marvel’s Black Panther in The Deep, a story rich with Afrofuturism, folklore, and the power of memory, inspired by the Hugo Award–nominated song “The Deep” from Daveed Diggs’s rap group Clipping.

Yetu holds the memories for her people—water-dwelling descendants of pregnant African slave women thrown overboard by slave owners—who live idyllic lives in the deep. Their past, too traumatic to be remembered regularly is forgotten by everyone, save one—the historian. This demanding role has been bestowed on Yetu.

Yetu remembers for everyone, and the memories, painful and wonderful, traumatic and terrible and miraculous, are destroying her. And so, she flees to the surface escaping the memories, the expectations, and the responsibilities—and discovers a world her people left behind long ago.

Yetu will learn more than she ever expected about her own past—and about the future of her people. If they are all to survive, they’ll need to reclaim the memories, reclaim their identity—and own who they really are.

Ahoy mateys! CHB Lafayette is thrilled to set sail with Angelle Terrell on July 25th at 1 p.m. as we celebrate her newest middle grade release of Archie Dare and the Pirate Code!

Archie Dare and the Pirate Code, set for readers between the ages of 8-12 (3rd-6th grade) is a perfect late-summer reading adventure! Follow Archie as he investigates the disappearance of his grandfather, Papa, whose favorite obsession is Jean Lafitte, a famous New Orleans pirate. Archie teams up with Lou and Drea to follow the clues Papa left behind – to realize the reason his grandfather was taken is because he knows the location of Jean Lafitte’s lost treasure.  

Make haste to CHB to meet Angelle, author of Someone in Louisiana Loves You, who writes stories about family, resilience, and the good kind of troublemaking. We’ll have pirate-themed crafting and other treasures too!

Secure your spot and your copy of Archie Dare and the Pirate Code through Bon Temps Tix! Book tickets will be available until 11:59 p.m. on July 24. Our free general admission tickets will be available up to the event itself or until it’s sold out! Copies of the novel will be available at the event.

Come hangout with us at CHB Lafayette as we celebrate the newest (and final) release of the Heartstopper series! 

The first 6 people to pick up their copy of Heartstopper Vol. 6 (releasing on 7/7/26) will receive a signed book plate by Alice Oseman as well as a goodie bag! Anyone who orders a copy of Vol. 6 will receive a goodie bag while supplies last. 

At the hangout on 7/11, we'll have Heartstopper activities from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. -- including a scavenger hunt with a Heartstopper water bottle as the prize!

We’re starting the month off with Louisiana Words 🎤in the bookshop! Heartstopper’s final installment is releasing on the 7th, and we’re celebrating it and the series on the 11th at our Heartstopper Hangout 🏳️‍🌈. Come by for a window of activities and a scavenger hunt!
