We provide professional floral services to our communities. Shayai Lucero, our owner and main floral designer, is an award-winning floral designer with over 8 years of experience. Part time staff include two floral designers with over 25 years of experience each. Our delivery area includes the Laguna, Acoma, Seboyeta, Cubero, San Fidel and Tohajillee areas. Our second wedding for September! It’s a white wedding!

The request from the bride was a simple one: all white roses with a touch of baby’s breath. And they came out beautiful! The bridal bouquet and grooms boutonniere had a touch of ruscus, while the maid of honor bouquet and groomsmen boutonnières were simply flowers. Hello Friends and Fans!

We were to mark our first Fall appearance today (09/13) at the Rail Yards Market ABQ for Gratuity Day. We have had messages and inquiries from several folx asking when we will “be back.” However, due to the recent passing of a tribal member and being a Pueblo florist, we will not be in attendance today. We will be creating the final life tribute flowers for the person journeying.

Thank you for your understanding and we hope to return soon to the Rail Yards Market.

September is wedding season in New Mexico! We do not think of any wedding as “too small” or insignificant because love should be celebrated in all sizes!

The order for the first weekend was for a rustic/country wedding in the colors of navy blue, rust and cream. The bouquet and groom’s boutonniere were designed with delphinium, cotinus, echinacea, eucalyptus, garden roses, tinted roses in rust, pampas grass and other dried products. It was a combination of fresh and dried products. They turned out beautiful!

Last month, we were asked to create a floral memorial for a mother who journeyed the year before. Last year, we were unable to accept the funeral order and the family utilized the services of another florist. Unfortunately, that florist was unable to capture what the family requested and for a year, this weighed on the family as they navigated through their grief.

So when we were asked to create the memorial design, our goal was to capture the spirit and beauty of their beloved mother. The only request from the family was to do the design in the colors of maroon and rose gold. We chose a contemporary style because it seemed fitting as we talked to the family about their Mom.

Upon pickup, the daughters cried tears and one said, “You knew what we were looking for last year!” There was also unintended symbolism in the design that made their grief heal even more. We are truly blessed with the honor to creating memorial flowers for a special woman.

Today, a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful persona has journeyed. She worked at the Haak’u Learning Center. The HLC also known as the “Turtle School” because the building is shaped like a turtle. The school ordered flowers to honor this special lady with the request of a turtle.

We created the wreath and used primary colors - red, yellow and blue. On the bed of yellow mums, I sculptured a turtle out of foam and covered with moss and green button mums. Protecting the turtle is a rainbow of flowers. The flowers include red carnations, blue delphinium, yellow solidago, various fresh greens and eucalyptus and violet blue mums. A rainbow after a rainstorm is a sign our beloved ones have made their journey.

We send love, light and peace to the Louis Family, as well as the staff and students of Haak’u Learning Center. May her gentleness, caring, and love for the littles of our community always be remembered.

Earth & Sky Floral • Shayai Lucero was honored to create the floral designs for the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center 50th Annual Gala! The gala has been one of our biggest events to create floral designs for and honestly, we worried about space to create in our teeny shop. But… it all worked out.

The designs were created to honor the traditional Pueblo pottery. Growing up, I have been surrounded with pottery being that my grandmother was Lucy M. Lewis. To me, she was Nana. To the art world, she was famous, remarkable and innovative. She’s often credited for the revitalization of pottery at Acoma. I never became a potter. It wasn’t for the lack of trying. I actually spent time with Nana trying to learn and she eventually told me in Keres, “Granddaughter, you’re never going to be a potter.” Her honesty was a trait I loved about her.

When the IPCC staff said I was given the floral contract, I created a design that took the colors of our Pueblo landscape, and used botanical elements to match. I purchased dried corn from a local farmer, Hiram Mariano, Jr. to add to the design. And then as I placed the floral pieces into the pottery, I told Nana, “I may not be a potter, but I learned how to work with the pottery.” I hope she giggled.

The professional and official photos of the event show that the gala was a success! And I am forever grateful for the IPCC to believe in my floral art in the celebration of a huge milestone. Daa waa ee!

It is always an honor when the folx at the National Museum of the American Indian contact us to create florals for their events in Santa Fe during the NDN Market Week. It was a double honor when we were told it was for an event held at the Cara Romero Gallery!

The design ideas went through a few revisions to capture the vision and color of the “Infinite We” exhibit. The exhibit showcased contemporary Indigenous artists in Cara’s beautiful gallery. So we took a modern approach, but also incorporated Cara’s own use of the elements in her own art.

The glass cylinders in the designs were obviously to represent water. The larger pieces were hand blown glass custom fitted to sustainably acquired teak wood and represented earth. The pincushion proteas and hanging amaranth were representing fire. And lastly the curly willow (that is a bit faded out in the photos) is to represent sky.

As always, there is intentionality when I choose flowers. The garden roses are Dragonfly, in which the actual insect can be seen as a messenger of transformation. The roses are Moab, and are dedicated to one of my ancestral Pueblo homes Bears Ears, which recently lost protection. The echinacea is a medicinal plant and my use is for healing of humanity. And finally, the zinnias were grown by newly sanctioned slow farm grower Shyla Sheppard. Shyla hand picked all the beautiful flowers for me to use. They added a beautiful pop of color to the designs.
