Sometimes changing where you live doesn’t immediately change your life.
But it can give you a place to begin.
At 48 years old, I loaded everything I owned into my Yukon and moved to Disney World.
Some people thought I was having a midlife crisis.
The truth was, I was trying to save my life.
I was broke. Literally.
My sister gave me gas money to get here. My dad paid my first month’s rent.
Talk about humbling…
I had lost my purpose. My body hurt. I weighed almost 400 pounds…and I knew I couldn’t keep living the story I was living.
Moving to Disney gave me a fresh start, but the move itself didn’t magically change me.
That happened one painful step at a time.
I began walking around Walt Disney World. At first, I couldn’t go very far. I’d have to stop a few times on Main Street before I could even reach the castle.
But little by little, those walks grew longer. One step became another. One good choice became another.
Eventually, some of those steps carried me across a finish line.
My first 5K!
There are parts of my story that I haven’t shared here before...not because I’m ashamed of them, but because it can be uncomfortable to let people see the messy, embarrassing parts of life.
But I want others to know that it’s never too late to begin again if you want to.
There may be a stronger, healthier and happier version of your life still waiting to be written.
You don’t have to move to Disney to change your life.
You just have to take the next step.
That dream inside you is there for a reason. Don’t be afraid to chase it.
Have you ever made a BIG life change that you’re glad you made?
