Today’s follow-up Doctors appointment brought more encouraging news.
The two main coronary narrowings are now believed to be approximately 54% and 56%, rather than the initially feared 70-90%. My heart function and blood flow remain strong, so no stent or other coronary procedure is needed at this time. Plaque was also found in all arteries in smaller amounts.
The doctor believes the coronary disease was responsible for the chest pain and discomfort I had been experiencing.
I am on an aggressive medication treatment which can stabilize the plaque and potentially reduce some of it over time.
The doctor believes genetics appears to have played a significant role due to my elevated genetic markers.
Although no accessory electrical pathway could be demonstrated during the EP study in my heart, the doctor believes an intermittent pathway may still be possible. The fact that it was so difficult to trigger is considered reassuring. Another EP study would only be considered if major episodes return.
Thank goodness all this was found now, and not years down the road with a heart attack or stroke.
Overall, this appointment went much better than we expected. The plan moving forward is aggressive medication, continued healthy diet and lifestyle, walking, strength training, and continued monitoring.
We are incredibly thankful for the encouraging news and for everyone who has prayed, called and supported our family through this process.
