OPEN TO BOOK - As we close in on fall, we find ourselves anxiously awaiting our upcoming trip to the Tsiu River in Alaska. This remote fishery is a wonderful getaway, complete with plenty of action. From the stunning flight into the lodge to frequent furry visitors and dime-bright coho, this family operation is truly one-of-a-kind.

A few views from the Puget Sound this week.

Sticklebacks are thick on the local Seattle beaches. When cutthroat key in on baitfish they can be picky. However, a surface fly, like a gurgler or slider, creates a wake that imitates a baitfish regardless of size.

Area 9 opens for coho August 1st, and we just received more Miyawaki poppers from Rainy’s. Time to hit up a beach!

Just six more weeks to fish Seattle’s favorite urban trout stream, the Cedar River. The river is low and wadeable. Look for daily stonefly and caddis activity. Subsurface flies are effective in the deeper runs. While dry flies are best fished in the faster riffles. Strikes are quick this time of year and test your reflexes!

Washington creeks are in great shape! Time to throw dry flies all day in search of trout. They won’t always be the biggest fish, but the beauty and solitude is well worth it.
