My longtime duet partner from way back in the day of my competitive dancing days reached out to see if I would make her queen of a MIL cookies for her retirement as an administrative assistant who juggled it all with grace. Here’s proof that I said yes.

Also, when asked if she was comfortable with me using this metallic gold formula on the set, her response was:

“Love this! And I drank four loco in college so I’m comfortable eating some gold.”

BRB lining up to be her best friend again!

It’s been a minute since I’ve introduced myself to all you Gals. So here it goes:

I’m Nicole! If you’re following me on here, I’ll refer to you as *my Gal;* if you buy anything from me on here (I make custom wreaths and cookies), I call my goods Gals too. It’s a me-thing, not a gender-thing. You can be whomstever you want to be over here at The Niche Market. This is what works for us.

Some other notable fun facts about me:
-I always initially type “Niche” as “Nitch” for some reason. Thankfully my phone knows the truth and usually doesn’t let me present myself like an A-hole who doesn’t know the name of her own business.
-I love making things with my hands. I happened upon wreaths first back in 2017, cookies second in 2020.
-I am easily one of the top five most affectionately impatient people on the planet.
-My birthday is on Tuesday. I’m a textbook Pisces over here, feeling my feelings so hard all the time.

And that’s basically me. Thanks for being here! I hope to ship you a Gal of your very own, very soon!

I remember always being so proud to tell people that I was a professional dancer, a college professor, an Executive Director, etc. - a string of professional-sounding roles that made me feel important, until one day I decided I wanted to be a stay at home mom more than I wanted to feel important for things happening outside of my home. But I wasn’t ready to “just be” a mom - I’m still not. So I make things.

My kids aren’t even a little bit phased by my making, it’s part of them. My daughter makes a mini wreath for every full-sized she catches me on, and both kids already know the difference in icing consistencies based on how the bags feel in their chubby little hands. I’ve always been, as my husband describes me, a very rare, kind of weird bird. It’s now my mission to raise my own little weird birds who think it’s normal to create interesting things out of nothing, who think it’s normal to spend actual quality time at home “doing nothing”, and who think it’s normal to have two parents who love them the most but who also make time for their own interests and hobbies, too.

I make because it’s who I am, and it’s important to me that my kids see me being me - a bird I’ve grown to love very much - every chance I get.

Gals! MURF (MermaidUnicornRainbowFlower, the name suggested by my four year old that’s sticking) the collection is juuuuuuust about ready for you! These five new Gals inspired by real-life muses are hitting the shelves hot at 12p on Monday. Consider them your Valentine’s Day treat in the form of door-candy meant to transition your home from winter to spring, and even summer.

As always, quantities are limited - I’m only one Gal with just two pre-arthritic hands trying to do the most during nap times. The last design in my new collection goes into production this week. Here’s what I know for sure - full coverage with a hand dyed bow and a black tourmaline (protection) pendant secured at the knot.

-Ferns and eucalyptus framing in (color green: fertility; heart chakra - acceptance, love, compassion)

-Some red berries incorporated for texture (red: root chakra - safety, stability, energy, comfort)

-Blue something (third eye: intuition, meditation, trust)

I got to make these 60th birthday/retirement cookies for a family who I’ve known since I was five years old.

“Ms. Sue,” the lady of the hour, is mom to three of my favorite dance friends growing up. Alicia - my first best friend (…still so sorry I convinced you to get your face painted first at that fair before chickening out myself…), Erin (), and little sister Andrea (who, and I’m still baffled, would eat one chicken nugget for lunch and call it good. She was like three at the time, but still. I feel like I’ve always been able to house at least six).

Anyways it was such an honor and a true pleasure to make these treats for Sue, who was always so kind and loving to me growing up. I hope you had the best birthday surprise, Ms. Sue - and even more so, congratulations on your retirement from the salon! ❤️

I come from a lineage of teachers: my grandparents were a college professor and an elementary school teacher, and my parents are a retired elementary/middle school principal and an elementary school teacher as well - teaching was just what I knew of working professionals growing up. I naturally found my own groove in teaching at a young age, first at the dance studio when I was in high school and during my undergrad years, then at the collegiate level during and immediately after grad school, THEN as a group fitness instructor (barre and indoor cycling) as I found my footing outside of dance, and now as a creative leader in my own workshop settings.

I’m naturally kind of shy but I like making people feel included and I like the simple act of helping others understand new things. I’m a good teacher. But I don’t necessarily like being held responsible for others’ assessment - like, I frankly don’t care about Shelly’s GPA. Workshops are going to suit me well.

I am so excited to be bringing workshops - wreaths AND cookies - to the forefront of The Niche Market this year. Gail goes live to clients today, with three more opportunities to work together later this year.
