Well today was a mixed day at the range. Mostly good news, but one big disappointment.
So let's start with the new .300 Blackout Short Barrel Machine Gun. Hands down the best gun I've ever built. I outlined the parts list in a previous post. As you can see though, I did not zero the Eotech optic. Ill take care of that before the next outing. 120 rounds through it today. I just wanted to test out functionality. Ran flawlessly.
However when I got home, I discovered the soft case interior melted a bit where the Suppressor was touching. Bummer. I got a patch of welded crud on my new HUXWRX Ventum. Gotta figure out how I'm gonna get that s**t off.
Second major wow was the Re*****on 742. First time I ever shot .30-06 and frankly being a skinny 138 lbs i was really intimidated by this little beast. It only weighs 7.5 pounds. I have not fired a rifle standing up since I was 12 years old. The 3 head shots were about 70 feet. The scope on that guy is dead center. I was bummed cuz I only brought 11 rounds. This was a breaking test, because o stripped this gun down completely to every last bolt, nut and screw. Replaced a couple parts, and put her back together.
I dont know who came up with the nickname of Jam-o-Matic for the 742, but they obviously were clueless on how to Lubricate this rifle.
You use Lubriplate No. 130-A GREASE!!! DO NOT USE OIL.
In fact, I am no longer using oil on the AR and SCAR platforms either. Both guns operated super smooth, no Ejection issues, just perfect cycling.
Especially helpful on a Suppressed machine gun where the amount of gas and crud can build up quickly, using a thin layer of grease cuts way down on the attraction of debris and grime.
The disappointment came from my damn Korth .44 Magnum!!! When I pulled the hammer back there was huge resistance and I could not understand what the hell was up. Closer inspection revealed the cylinder was not rotating properly. It was actually hanging up on spots. I put 6 rounds through it to test the 160gr hollowpoints I made, and on the chronograph (1580fps average). Then another inspection of the cylinder i made the decision to put the gun away. Thats a 4.2k gun and a precision piece and I have no clue what's going on. I've been breaking in a new holster with this revolver and shoved the gun in and out a couple hundred times at least. Im thinking tiny bit of leather has gotten into a spot it should not be in?? Dont know, but I will talk to Nighthawk Custom on Monday and see what they think. Gun has lifetime warranty so we shall see. I may blast the Ejection shaft and Ejection areas with some carb cleaner and see if that helps. That stuff just vaporizes so maybe it will clear things out. When I cleaned it last there were remnants of CLP under the Ejection fingers, so maybe some made its way down inside the cylinder shaft, and got a little carbon gunk when firing. Nothing is bent so not sure on that.
I am absolutely in love with my Re*****on 742. With the 9 round magazine in it like you see there on the bed, it looks really intimidating. You do not wanna be on the business end of that barrel.
Overall my buddy Dean and I had a great afternoon. I wish I had a picture of the huge grin after he flipped the selector over to full auto and fired a couple of bursts. Priceless.
By the way, if you have not heard of Brass Goat brass catchers for the AR Platform, check them out. Best design ever and I can't understand why someone didn't come up with it sooner.
Till next time, have a wonderful 2026 everyone. Thanks for following the page. I am the luckiest guy because I have the most incredible customer base. Thank you to everyone for your support and teaching me in the process.
