This unique paper collection of her colorful and textured eco-printed designs is created through plant staining achieved by boiling. Through years of study, she has discovered the nuances that can influence the end result. As a child, working with clay captured her interest when she took lessons at Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh and honed her skills through studies in college, graduate school and beyond. Rachelle earned a Masters of Education and was the Adjunct Ceramics Professor at Gardner-Webb University and Florida Southern College where she inspired students to seek their unique creative expressions through clay. An invited artist to Walt Disney World, Rachelle showed and sold her art at special events at EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and other resort locations. Currently her work is sold exclusively on RachelleEason.com.

There’s a reason our membership classes aren’t simply open studio time.

We spend a LOT of time thinking about what we’re going to explore next.

Projects and techniques are chosen intentionally to build on skills, introduce something new, stretch you a little, and sometimes take you somewhere you probably wouldn’t have gone on your own.

Not everyone makes the same thing. In fact, we hope you don’t.

The project is often just the starting point.

Because our goal isn’t to keep giving you things to make.

It’s to keep giving you reasons to grow. 💜

One of the things you’ll hear us say in class is “push it a little farther.”

Sometimes we literally mean the clay. 😉

But sometimes we mean the idea.

What happens if you exaggerate that curve? Make it taller? Alter the rim? Take away something you thought it needed? Stop trying to make it perfect?

Learning technique gives you the tools.

Learning when and how to push an idea is where your own work starts to emerge.

Wednesday: Work-in-Progress

There is a whole lot of unfinished happening around here.

And we like it that way.

Because the finished piece may be what eventually goes home, but the work-in-progress is where so much of the learning happens.

It’s where you figure out why that wall keeps slumping. Why the proportion feels off. Whether that handle really belongs there. And sometimes...whether the whole thing needs to change direction.

We don’t expect every decision to be the right one the first time.

Learning what to do next is part of learning clay. 💜

🏠 OUR PATRON WALL IS GROWING INTO A VILLAGE! 🏠

Our 2nd Annual Patron Wall Fundraiser is officially here, and our 2026 theme is VILLAGE.

This year, Rachelle is handmaking a collection of wonderfully wonky little ceramic houses to become a permanent part of the Patron Wall in Studio B.

Each house will be personalized with your name, with leafy details, organic rooflines, windows and textures. And because no two homes are quite the same, no two Patron Houses will be either!

Choose your house:

🏠 Small | approx. 5" | $60
🏠 Large | approx. 7" | $100

And you'll get a little piece of the Village to take home! Each Patron House includes a coordinating approximately 3" ceramic house ornament/dangle.

💜 Only 50 houses will be created.

Member Spotlight: Monique 💜

This one is a little bittersweet.

Monique has been part of Marvelous Mud Pottery Studio since the very early days, back when classes were still happening at my house! Now she is heading home to Puerto Rico, and we are going to miss having her in the studio.

If there is one thing you can always count on in Monique’s pottery, it’s COLOR. She has never been afraid to let her love of it shine, and her pieces are unmistakably hers because of it.

That is something I love seeing in a potter: when technique, experience and personality finally start coming together into a voice of their own.

Monique, there will always be a place for you at Marvelous Mud Pottery Studio. We hope there are lots of visits back to Lakeland in your future...and that at least a few of them include getting your hands back into some clay with us. 💜

What does it mean to “push the clay”?

Sometimes we literally mean PUSH it.

Instead of always adding another piece of clay to create form, we’ve been exploring how much we can ask the clay that is already there to do.

Push it. Stretch it. Compress it. Move the volume. Change the silhouette.

It’s a different way of thinking about building, and one of those techniques that can completely change the way you approach a piece.

Less attaching. More manipulating.

We’re getting ready to RAKU! 🔥

Our Raku crew has been busy building pieces and learning about a firing process that is definitely a little different from our usual studio routine!

I’ve been demoing techniques, talking through what makes a piece work well for Raku, and sharing some of my past Raku-fired pieces so everyone can start thinking about the possibilities for their own work. We even torched a piece in class to get a little fired up!

And this is all leading somewhere pretty exciting...

15 of us are trekking to St. Pete, with TWO handmade pieces each, for our own private Marvelous Mud Raku event at the Morean Center for Clay!

Thirty pieces. Lots of fire, smoke and surprises. 🔥

For now, we’re still in the making and learning stage. But that’s part of the fun. We’re not just making pots. We’re learning a completely different way of thinking about how clay, surface and firing all come together.

And soon...we get to add FIRE. 🔥💜

Rooted in Stone is underway!

This class started with a piece of slate, a whole lot of Colorworks colored clay, and the challenge of creating something that feels like it belongs with the stone rather than simply sitting on top of it.

Students are building dimensional clay elements directly around their individual pieces of slate, thinking about composition, movement, texture and how the natural stone becomes part of the finished artwork.

And because everyone chose from Colorworks colored clay for their builds, the COLOR is already part of the design before we ever get anywhere near glaze. 💜

Same class. Same materials. Completely different ideas taking shape.

Already know your way around clay?

You might be wondering where you fit at Marvelous Mud.

Even experienced potters who are interested in membership begin with either our Dig Deep or 6-Week Wheel Throwing course.

But that doesn’t mean we’re asking you to step backward.

Think of it as a meet and greet with clay. 💜

It gives you a chance to get to know our studio, our instructors, how we work and the community you might become part of. And it gives us a chance to get to know you, how you work with clay, what you already know and where you’d like to grow.

Because membership is more than having a place to make pottery. We want to be sure Marvelous Mud is the right fit for you...and that you’re the right fit for our little clay community too.

Once you’re here, we can meet you where you are and help you figure out what comes next.
