Reminder to anyone who has ordered a basket…. It’s basket pickup time!! Any baskets not claimed by June 10th will be offered for sale. I’ve had A beautiful basket released this afternoon. It’s green and white a very popular combination!! I wanted to take a few minutes to speak about basket care…. Water!! Lots of water!! Most common mistake people forget to water!! I personally don’t understand the concept 🤣🤣I water everything once and sometimes twice!! Water running through baskets and dripping on the ground is a good thing. Most baskets fill completely with roots so keeping your basket hydrated to the bottom is a good thing!! Next we need to talk about fertilizer! Baskets should be fertilized every 7-10 days. I like to see customers use the high quality, water soluble fertilizers. Every couple of weeks I recommend a fertilizing of bloom booster. Some folks use bloom booster the entire summer, and that’s ok too! We are very happy to discuss your personal needs on feeding plans. Next problem to arise will be pests! Most common pests will be aphids!! People tend to panic about aphids … but please don’t. They are very treatable … and we are here to help! While some folks like to use the insecticide soaps and neem oil treatments, I’m the kind of person who loves to blast em down with a chemical concoction 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️get em quick!! And stay vigilant!! We can help with many of these issues … next problem will be earwigs!! Oh my they can eat you out of house and home!! You go to sleep with a beautiful plant you wake up to a stick 😬😳!! There are some pretty good home remedies, and my personal favorite, Sluggo Plus!! Please if you have issues let us try to help! We continue to be open 7 days a week!! Have a beautiful weekend 🌷🌷🌷

I’m truly overwhelmed by our community. A need was brought forward and embraced … and more than enthusiastically!! Thank you to all our “Adoptees “ what a fun day!! A special thanks to our crew here at Bloomers for helping us pull all the moving parts together! Then a huge thank-you to my niece, for her donation of her “Cake Society” cake pops… so yummy and cute!! Thank you Tom and Shelly for helping with the last minute details! Amy Fortune for making all the signs! The boys at the city for willingly moving the planters around!! The Town of Lakeview for giving us their blessings!! Now lets enjoy watching them grow for the summer months 🌷🌷🌷Thank you again everyone ❤️❤️

It’s basket pickup time here at Bloomers!! I know this weather has given us a curve ball this week, torrential rains, tornado warnings, hail, terrible wind!! But the good news is the week coming ahead looks so nice!! Hoping it is so for all our great students graduating next weekend !! Well anyway our love affair with the baskets is concluding and we are happy for you to get them home and enjoy them! Best tips for hanging basket success is plenty of water, it is good for them to drip out the bottom, but this process also washes away nutrients in the soil and increases the demand for fertilizer. I can’t stress how important regular fertilizer applications are on baskets. My recommendation is weekly but minimally every 19 days for continues beauty and enjoyment. We carry several fertilizers here at the store. I’m a big fan of Jack’s Fertilizer and Fertilome. I feel like these are two of the best on the market! Feel free to ask more questions as you pick up your baskets here, or even if you purchase elsewhere! We are here to help! We also have geranium baskets which are always tough and enjoyable for months and can actually winter over if you are into that sort of thing. We look forward to seeing you soon! Well just as I predicted we would have a change of weather. I have had a few customers stare at me in disbelief as I have warned against this cold snap we just endured. If history serves, we will have one more somewhere in June! Gardening on the high desert is seriously “no joke”. Sometimes it feels like the deck is stacked against us!! At Bloomers we keep these issues in mind when placing our orders and assisting our customers !! While there are literally hundreds of tomatoes out there to grow… many just don’t finish here for us on the high desert. We select seeds and starts with these facts in mind … it can go cold quickly here, so short season varieties are best! Early girl tomatoes are a community favorite here. It’s a nice slicing tomato, and we carry celebrity tomatoes, my personal favorite… I feel it has a dark red meat when slicing. My all-time favorite are cherry tomatoes. So great for salads … or just to eat!! We have sweet 100’s and sungold perking right along…. Of course, we have romas for paste and salsa it’s a courser tomato, but a favorite for many who love its many attributes. I do have a few beef steaks growing, for those die hard customers who want to “go for it”. The maturing date usually pushes in excess of 75 days or more. We don’t have that many truly hot days that those big old guys love…. Tomatoes like to be hot!! I have tried to let customers know, once tomatoes get cold it affects their productivity. Just an observation on my part. There are lots of ways to grow tomatoes but I’m personally a fan of a straight up plant being secured and contained by a cage! They are not a beautiful plants by any means … but we shall enjoy the goodness for the summer months! We have peppers, and of course an assortment of other yummy veggies too!
