Sustainable yards are part of the solution for protecting local wildlife. From 🦠microorganisms that produce nutritious soil to 🐝pollinators to manatees in the sea, each layer of the food chain is negatively affected by traditional yard care.
Toxic pesticides, w**d killers, and fertilizers=poor soil health and polluted groundwater, which leads to out-of-whack ecosystems with extra pests and biting insects. Avoiding these and growing native and beneficial plants protects everyone.

🦋Grow a yard that is safe to play in and nurtures wildlife.

We are so excited for the dragon fruits to come! The blooms are absolutely magnificent . I was surprised to find out that moths normally pollinate them as they bloom at night.

Coffee breaks are great but smoothie breaks are better! The Natural W**d Killer Crew embraces summer with this Blueberry Açaí-Chia smoothie. Dan reports that the Açaí Bowl Powder can be found locally at Healthway in Vero.
Got any smoothie secrets? We would love to hear them!

Watching this Great Blue Heron wade and hunt in a canal in the Savannas reminded me of how important our water health is to every natice species in South Florida.
We know Big Sugar is the main contributor of water pollution in Florida, but our yards have an impact too. Groundwater enters the canals which flow to the lagoon, so keep it clean with ecofriendly lawn care practices 🐝🦅 🐬 🐸. This guy will thank you!
Happy holidays from the Natural W**d Killer Crew!

Are dragonflies pollinators? No, but this one couldn’t resist a quick rest on this blooming Aloe Vera in our yard (only mature aloe plants sprout these awesome stalks). Beautiful!

This awesome scarab was meandering through the Natural W**d Killer yard today. He’s an ox beetle and quite agreeable to hanging out and being handled. Ox beetles are important decomposers in the ecosystem. Hope this guy sticks around this summer!

🌽 Super informative interview on the results of the pesticides used on our food supply. I’m newly inspired to buy produce from the local market this weekend, keep up the summer garden, and start more permaculture endeavors! The environmental impact such as the drastic loss of honey bees and the impact on human health is not necessary. There are so many solutions.

Buttonbush, Flame Lily, and Frangipani spring blooms inspire a summer beverage! Buttonbush (the first photo in the series) is my fav. They are natives and produce nectar, excellent for pollinators. And those white orbs make you feel like you’re in a garden on another planet.

Leo and I were surprised to see this guy hunting during the day as the Black Crowned Night Heron is known for being active in the evening. He was quite friendly!

Don’t have weekend plans? Plan a hike at a local nature reserve and get your wildlife appreciation on :)

This is my first time seeing an alligator at Indrio Savannahs Preserve in Fort Pierce. Beautiful to glimpse!
Alligators keep a bad rep sometimes but they are an integral predator in their ecosystems, keeping many populations like raccoons in check.

Watching this merry band of pollinators reminds me of their critical importance in our ecosystems. And their harvest is so GLORIOUS to view🌼🦋🌻🐝.

Awesome to see Spoonbills feeding in Fort Pierce at Indio Savannas Preserve! Spoonbills were over-hunted in the past and almost went extinct but their numbers are coming back up. They love water, so let’s keep it clean!
