One of the special things about Independent Bookstores is that we generally don’t see each other as competition.

In fact, you’ll probably never see someone more excited to be in an indie bookstore than a person who works at another indie bookstore.

We buy each other’s merch, wear each other’s shirts, celebrate successes and offer assistance/guidance during hard times.

When our store was tagged a couple of times under a picture of the Chautauqua Bookstore, letting someone know that there is more than one bookstore in the area, I was hit with a feeling of pride that we have members of our community advocating on behalf of the store. But also, the Chautauqua Bookstore is pretty great.

In addition to our store and Chautauqua, our county has Genres and Mumpsimus Bookstores in Westfield, and The Next Chapter Bookstore in Fredonia - all three are incredible used bookstores!

Not too far away, Book Club on Main in North East, Pa, as well as Werner Books and Pressed Books in Erie are worth the trip.

We also love participating in the WNY Bookstore Passport with all of our bookstore friends in Buffalo and the surrounding suburbs.

The report of our death has been greatly exaggerated, indie bookstores are alive and well!
