Collectible wooden gifts - handmade and harvested from locally sourced lumber; albeit diseased, dead or storm fell trees. Dark Side of the Wood started out as a jewellery company making plugs from scrap guitar lumber in Maryland, 2011, while luthier Matthew Barrett was working in a production line as a finish hall worker for Paul Reed Smith. Upon acquiring new tools and techniques as he traveled

the country, the art produced has expanded ten fold. In late 2017, Matt relocated back to Bucks County, PA in a small suburb of Langhorne, to care for his family. Now, the company sells wood locally sourced from diseased, dying, or naturally fell trees for customers to make their own art projects. The handmade items produced can be purchased at Richland Antiques and Collectibles in Quakertown, PA. The goal of the company is to provide sustainable lumber practices for the local community to support.

I've been "Turning Trash Into Treasure" since 2011.

Now, with a private studio located in New Hope, PA, I invite you to join me on the Dark Side as I teach guitar lessons, instrument repairs, and professional woodworking tasks while offering an array of finished products on display for sale.

Have you ever played a violin from the 1800s?

I do no justice to this instrument by playing it, but I helped a chap keep his grandmother's violin in tune so he could learn to play an instrument she brought to the states around the turn of the 20th century.

These connections are why I love my work.

Some shops will treat you like a bill to be paid.

What's not to love about New Hope Arts?

Different exhibitions rotate monthly on the main floor, as well as the revolving "A Space" which is designed for artists looking to sell in a retail "pop up" for an entire month.

The building also houses skilled artists in a variety of mediums: stained glass, ceramics, oil paintings, photography, fiber, wood, food and more!

On occasion, I showcase other artists out front of my studio to add to the variety of rotating artwork.

You can always expect a new experience when you visit.
