One week left until we close down. We're going to be open every day from now until our last day, October 17th, so you've got until then to come grab cute clothes, vintage vinyl, and gay-ass books. Reminder: Thrift Witch is not closing, they are moving into a new building down the street, and we will have things there, just not as much as we've had when we were our own shop. We will also have our online shops where you'll be able to get some stuff, too.

Rosalarian here. It's really sinking in that these are our final days. I think the number one thing I'm going to miss is seeing q***r people's faces and shoulders visibly relax when they crossed our threshold. I'll miss how often I've had people new to town come in and ask where they can find community and being able to tell them. I'll miss seeing people come in as strangers and leave as new friends. I'll miss all the deep conversations I've had with customers as we navigate this dystopia together.

I won’t sit here and say this closing was a choice we made. The truth is that q***r businesses are being hit extra hard these days. We have to deal with the bad economy AND a rise in q***r/transphobia. We've had to deal with intentional sabotage & violent rhetoric and other stuff I struggle to put into words. We need community more than ever, but q***r spaces are shrinking, disappearing.

We also need to talk about how so much of Lansing is owned by landlords charging increasingly exorbitant rent prices while the properties physically crumble. This also applies to business spaces. Our rent was relatively cheap here, and we could not find a new place for even twice the price. Thrift Witch has managed to find a new space (We are so happy for Tiesha! Keep an eye out for their grand reopening!) but it's much smaller, and there isn't enough space for the Dark Arts Market to come along.

I'm not sad so much as angry. We put our hearts and souls into building this place over the years, and other people tore it all down. I don't want to protect them by pretending that everything is fine and normal and this ending was planned. F # # # the landlords & the homophobes & transphobes & this stupid excuse for a president & all his cronies. All we wanted to do was make art and share it with our community.

Anyways, make sure to follow us on our other pages. We'll still have online stores and we'll still be doing craft fairs and art markets when they pop up. Thank you for being part of this beautiful thing we made together.

You may have heard, and yes, the rumors are true. The Dark Arts Market is closing. Our last day will be Friday, October 17. We're hoping this will be more of a hibernation than a death, but we currently have not found a new space to go after our current lease ends.

We're having a bunch of sales to offload remaining inventory. Get it while the gettin's good. You can still find each of us online in the meantime, as well as vending at Dark Arts shows in Lansing and around Michigan. We've had a blast in this space, and we are so grateful for so many years with you.

The trans community is not feeling great right now. As a trans person myself, I know this deeply. If you need to get out and be in a trans supportive place, I got you. I've got a bunch of trans zines and comics that you can come read. Or we can have a b***h session. Or just exist in silence without being bothered. I think it's good for us to be around each other right now. We get through this together.
