One of our favorite customers loaned us two of these owls. The “Wise Old Owl is a large glass jar and is a famous 20th-century molded-glass container frequently used as a store display, coin bank, or bulk candy and bubblegum jar.
A little more information on this fun piece of history.
• Dimensions: Stands about 20 to 21 inches tall and roughly 10 inches wide, weighing around 12.5 pounds.
• Design: Clear, textured glass featuring detailed owl feathers, talons, and facial features, often embossed with the phrase “The Wise Old Owl”.
• Origin/Era: Originally produced by companies like the Owens Bottle Company (Illinois Glass) or later by makers like Bloomingdale Glass in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Stop in and guess how many pieces of bubblegum we added and still didn’t completely fill him.
