Oboe Tube Cane Selection Strategies: Golden color with some marbling best. I have found that striped, sometimes neon colored, cane tends to have diameters that are best for high altitudes. Unfortunately, they don't go through the gouger too well and are usually quite brittle. Best for expert reed maker, and if you get one that works, they are "oboe-licscious". Mine have all failed. Go figure. I generally prefer to repurpose them for holiday ornaments or stocking stuffers. ;-)
