Today we commemorate the defining moment in 1836 when delegates convened at Washington-on-the-Brazos and formally declared Texas an independent nation.

By signing the Texas Declaration of Independence, 59 representatives charted a new course rooted in life, liberty, and the pursuit of self-government—laying the foundation for the Republic of Texas and the legacy that continues to shape our great Lone Star State.

Texas Independence Day is more than a date on the calendar—it’s a celebration of bold vision, resilience, and the unwavering spirit that defines our communities.
