~ Gift for you! 🎁
It's THAT time of year....
Fall, Autumn, Harvest or whatever you might call it, it's a favorite time of year for many.
Yet in my early years, it meant cooler/sweater weather and school starting (which always started the Wednesday after Labor Day). The previous few weeks involved shopping for "first day of school" clothes, shoes, book bags, pencils (ahhh, the smell of the freshly-sharpened ones!) and pencil cases, sharpeners, erasers, composition and loose leaf books, modern book covers (or handmade ones from brown paper bags), rulers, etc. Sidewalk sales were Mom's favorite (with the four of us in tow!)
If you've lived in or KNOW about Southern New Mexico, it's a "chile" time of year! Folks travel 🧳 from all OVER to get their "chile fix", loading up those roasted treasures with enough to last them until next visit!
Our ever-popular Chile Soap (https://www.newmexicosoap.com/product/chile-season-is-here-red-or-green-/55?cs=true&cst=custom) has been the rage ever since we released these unique regional relics!
Apples were a very large part of our "landscape" back home....apple cider, pies, 🥧 running through piles of leaves, 🍁 bobbing for apples, fragrances etc.
That's why our newest Apple Harvest scented soap (https://www.newmexicosoap.com/product/uglybar/1?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=2) (and Shave Soap, (https://www.newmexicosoap.com/product/shavebodysoap/13) Fall Set Series, Shea Butter, available as a custom scent for your 16 oz jar) (https://www.newmexicosoap.com/product/16ozSheaButter/3?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=4) is endearing and heartwarming that will put a huge nostalgic smile to your face and pleasant "sniffs" to your nostrils! 👃
The Olde Farmers Almanac has been a favorite read for years. The current issue has a section about...APPLES!
Here's a fun kitchen foodie activity that can be enjoyed all year long: (My personal notations in parentheses.)
A SIMPLE RECIPE
Make apple juice and applesauce:
Peel, core and chop your favorite apple variety. (I used 10 apples) then place them in a large stewpot. (I add lots of cinnamon.) Cover with water, bring to a boil, then cover the pot and simmer on low heat until the apples become mushy. Strain with a colander and pour the juice into a pitcher. Taking the apples aside, use a potato masher in a large bowl, and smoosh some applesauce with added Stevia to taste, if desired.
Refrigerate your juice and use it within a week, can the hot juice in sterilized jars, or freeze it in airtight containers for up to six months.
(I use the apple juice for smoothies, hot and cold drinks and can be added as a splash of flavor to your water bottle (that we should ALL be drinking!) The apple sauce gets separated in several small containers for freezing. Again, for smoothies or just a healthy snack.)
Both grape juice and apple juice all are staples that are always homemade at our house, never store bought.
A glimpse of some of the new fall scents:

The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many.... September is dressing herself in showy dahlias and splendid marigolds and starry zinnias.
October, the extravagant sister, has ordered an immense amount of the most gorgeous forest tapestry for her grand reception.
~Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809–1894), "Autumn," The Atlantic Almanac, 1868
🎁 A SEPTEMBER GIFT FOR YOU!!
In your September order, mention "I’ll take a scrub" in the notes section and you'll receive two slices of our Loose Loofahs (https://www.newmexicosoap.com/product/loose-loofah-slices/175) .......great for scrubbing veggies, fruits, sinks, counters, bodies, feet or anything that DOES need to be scrubbed! Then order more (https://www.newmexicosoap.com/product/loose-loofah-slices/175) if desired (and they're on sale!). Spritz or immerse in white vinegar to disinfect.
The BEST part? When they're ready to be discarded, simply toss them in your compost or bury under plants to assist with drainage (outdoors or indoors). They biodegrade!
