A Sussex County, New Jersey resident called out local officials at a recent council meeting, demanding recognition for the graves of enslaved individuals after a councilwoman was seen posing with her husband, who has a Confederate flag tattoo.

This comes as momentum grows nationwide to honor the labor, history, and final resting places of enslaved Black Americans.

Greenwood wasn't just Black Wall Street. It was proof — proof that Black people, fresh out of the chains of slavery, could build a world without them. Banks. Hospitals.

Newspapers. Law offices. 600 businesses across 36 blocks.

So they set it on fire.

And then they buried it in your textbooks.
