Happy birthday to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who was born in 1925. She was the first woman to hold the leadership role, and she held it for nearly 12 years!

We have two copies of her books here in the gallery at the moment; much like many other 20th century politicians, we'll only see her works signed.

This is a rare scene even for us: five first editions, in unrestored original dust jackets, from Ernest Hemingway! He's very popular and difficult to get a hold of, and they generally sell pretty quick.

All five of these books are currently on display here in .

On October 7th, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe died in the hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The author's first complete works set, shown here, was published one year later and included a memoir by his literary rival Rufus W. Griswold. This work attacked Poe's character, referred to him as a lunatic, and marred Poe's reputation for years.

Today, Edgar Allan Poe is fondly remembered for his stories and poems like The Cask of Amontillado, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Raven.

Three excellent first editions on display in Vegas we're featuring today, including an Old Testament from 1610!

And the other two we don't see often either: a first edition in cloth of one of Mark Twain's most popular, and the third James Bond novel, Moonraker. Nothing like the movie, trust me.

Wow! Our social media accounts have reached a couple of big milestones thanks to you!

One of the older books we have here in at the moment: Bloody MacKenzie's Laws and Customes of Scotland in Matters Criminal.

Dated 1678 and in contemporary brown calf binding, this volume has a very interesting chapter dedicated to , its practice, and how to identify practitioners.

To kick off the month of October, a quick video of one of the scariest stories in the gallery at the moment: the first edition hardback novelization of the 1982 film Poltergeist. Written by James Kahn, this copy of his novel is signed by him on the title page.

I wonder what other spooky books can be found in the gallery this month...

On display here in , with some posters featuring illustrations out of the set, we have a complete 13-volume collection about Ancient Egypt and the Middle East available.

In a fine gilt-decorated morocco binding, this Grolier Society publication features over 1200 engraved plates, some in color. Only 200 of these sets were produced.

Wow, this is exciting! We just got in a brand-new cradle for display purposes in the gallery! Book cradles make it easy to display books, and prevent the book from laying completely flat.

The ones we use here at Bauman Rare Books Las Vegas are all the same size, generally made to display large books like this volume that holds multiple issues of a century-old French theater magazine.

Book cradles are typically made of acrylic, wood, or fabric as shown here.

We have available right now not one, but two first editions from Zora Neale Hurston, one of the most prominent authors of the American South. A close friend of Langston Hughes, her writing covers a broad range of subjects, branching into anthropology, folklore, and racial struggles in the American South.

Dust Tracks On a Road (1942) is her autobiography, chronicling her childhood, time at Howard University, and early fiction. Seraph on the Suwanee (1948) is her last published novel.
