Mike Bossy is a former professional ice hockey player who played for the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League (NHL). He is widely regarded as one of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history.

Bossy was born on January 22, 1957, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round of the 1977 NHL Entry Draft and quickly made an impact in his rookie season.

Throughout his ten-year career with the Islanders from 1977 to 1987, Bossy consistently demonstrated his scoring prowess. He scored no less than 50 goals in each of his first nine seasons, an NHL record that still stands today. Bossy also achieved the remarkable feat of scoring 50 goals in fewer than 50 games twice during his career.

Bossy played a crucial role in helping the Islanders win four consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980 to 1983. He was known for his accurate and powerful shot, as well as his ability to find open spaces on the ice. His combination of skill, speed, and hockey sense made him a constant threat to opposing goaltenders.

Despite suffering a career-ending back injury at just 30 years old, Bossy's impact on the game of hockey cannot be overstated. He retired with numerous records and accolades, including being named to the NHL All-Star Team eight times and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs' most valuable player in 1982.

In 1991, Bossy was rightfully recognized for his contributions to the sport when he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. His number 22 jersey was also retired by the New York Islanders organization as a testament to his greatness.

After retiring from playing, Bossy has remained involved in hockey as a successful businessman and television analyst. His legacy as one of the greatest players in NHL history continues to inspire young players and fans alike.
