Frida Kahlo’s Haunting Letter About Losing Her Youth After the 1925 Bus Accident
A year after the 1925 bus accident, Frida Kahlo wrote one of her most haunting letters to Alejandro Gómez Arias.
Tragically, she described feeling as though the accident had forced her to grow old in an instant. While her friends became women gradually, Frida felt that pain and trauma had stripped away childhood, mystery, and innocence all at once.
She wrote of living on a “painful planet, transparent as ice,” where everything suddenly seemed exposed and painfully clear.
Her words reveal not only physical suffering but the emotional shock of realizing that life would never again feel quite the same.
