Winter of 1988 I was living in Lake Tahoe developing my skills as a photographer. I was also developing a line of postcards which had to have ski images. I befriended a couple of great skiers who would do anything to be in front of the camera. I was working in low light toward dusk above Incline Village so I used the flash to illuminate the subject.
The average on camera flash bursts at aprox 1/10,000 of a second but the camera was set at a 60th of a second, the flash freezes motion but the skier kept traveling in darkness after the flash which created a forward moving shadow. this technique gives a 3D affect to the image.

I could feel the excitement building as I left the Autostrada, destination the Port of Naples where the ferry would take me and my rental car to the Island of Procida. The traffic quickly became bumper to bumper , so I got the attention of a local in the next lane over and asked "Scusi signore, directions to the port of Naples?" He threw up his hands and said "very difficult from
here ." Oh boy! Trapped again in another Italian city. Here's a brainy idea, "Hey Siri directions to the port of Naples."
Like an angel from the clouds a voice expertly guided me there with the worst Italian accent but great directions.
Finally got the car on the ferry and sailed the one hour skip to Procida. I was transported to what felt like an old Greek fishing village. CREATION
On one of my Hawaii location shoots I found myself driving down an undeveloped area of south Maui late in the afternoon, looking for the perfect combination of land and sea. As the sunset approached I became more frantic (as I sometimes do) to find an opening between the Lava rocks that revealed an opportunity to catch incoming waves. I found such an opening and ran to the water’s edge, set up the shot, minutes later the sun went behind the cloud bank and sprayed rays of burnt orange light across the sky. I named this image Creation as I contemplated The primordial soup of early life.

In late 2017 I was researching interesting places in europe to photograph once I finished four intense days photographing Venice’s Carnival in mid February. I discovered four historic libraries two in Austria one in Switzerland and one in Germany. I proceeded to reach out to each one and ask if I could be granted permission to photograsph the interior of these great halls of learning, permission was granted, I was ecstatic! The morning after carnival I headed to Linz Austria where St. Florian Monastery library resides. My appointment was the next morning so I checked into a quaint hotel and waited with great anticipation for the morning session. Next day on to Admont abbey Monastery Library in Austria, same routine, then on to St. Gallen Abbey Library in Switzerland. Finally the amazing Kloster Wiblingen Abbey Library. What struck me the most was the craftsmanship from the fine woodwork to the rococo and baroque ornamentations and the beautifully painted frescos from the early eleventh century onward. But mostly the priceless volumes of learning kept safe in these spiritual halls, monasteries and abbeys.
