After 10 wonderful years, it’s time for Maura and I to turn the page.

The Dollar Book Shuffle has been so much more than a bookstore to us. It’s been a place filled with stories, laughter, friendships, and an amazing community of book lovers. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported this little dream over the past decade.

As bittersweet as this moment is, we are excited to share that The Dollar Book Shuffle is being passed on to new owners. We know they care about this special place and will continue its next chapter with the same love for books and community.

Thank you to every customer who stopped in to browse, chat, donate, trade, and support a small local business. Your kindness and loyalty have meant more than words can express.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for an unforgettable 10 years. I hope you’ll continue to support The Dollar Book Shuffle as it begins this exciting new chapter.

Update : We’re going to open tomorrow, Sunday July 5, and see how it feels. It’s not supposed to get as hot, but there’s still a heat advisory out. We may end up only being open for a few hours, and then closing. We’ll let you know if we end up closing early, so follow here for updates, or you can call us at (302) 522-8728 to make sure someone is still there before driving to us.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 July 4, 1776, 250 years ago, the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress, marking our freedom from England. The United States of America may not be perfect, it may have it's flaws, but when America comes together in unity, we are unstoppable. We are very blessed to have the freedoms and opportunities that we do, something we so easily take for granted. Take a minute today to remember all the sacrifice that went into building such an amazing country, full of such amazing people. Never forget, freedom isn't free. We hope you have an amazing Fourth of July!!! Everyone stay safe, have fun, and fly those flags high!!! Happy 250th Birthday, America!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Update : The extreme heat warning is continued through tomorrow until 8pm, so unfortunately we’ll still be closed Saturday July 4. They are are calling for rain tomorrow night so fingers crossed it’ll cool everything down enough to be open on Sunday.

(We put out some really good material this past week, so hopefully Sunday we’ll be able to open 🙏). We just want to reiterate once again, please stay safe, and stay hydrated. People underestimate this heat and end up very sick, very fast.

There is an excessive heat advisory for Laurel, DE. The heat index for Friday, July 3, is predicted to get up to 114 F. The air conditioners in the market are insufficient for this heat so for your safety, and the safety of our cashier, we won’t be opening Friday. We’re not sure yet how Saturday will play out, so please stay tuned for updates.
