My art is a reflection of that which I have come to love, which I have come to understand, which I have come to feel, which I have come to think, which I have come to see. My name is Melissa Hart and I am an artist. The urge to create beauty is at my core. I have been creating since I was a little girl… I have always loved getting messy:)
I started Moon Motions in 2002. I was working for a non-
profit organization called the Citizens Action Coalition. I was also a college student , and mother of one (Kardal). I started out with a backpack full of tie-dyes, a dollar in my pocket, and love in my heart. I danced around concerts and festivals for a few years:)
In 2005 my son Kyan was born. I wanted to pour everything that I had into being a good mother. When Kyan was just 8 weeks old we moved from Indianapolis IN to Las Cruces NM. I fell in love with the desert! About 6 months after moving there my ex-husband and I started a canvass for The Southwest Environmental Center. I also started making dream catchers, wands, half shirts, hand bags, wooden boxes and elves. I kept going to festivals and started selling my wears in retail stores and at the farmer/ craft market. Within a year we had brought in so many new members for the organization that I was needed as an office manager. I also did event coordinating, cleaning and whatever else was needed. I kind of stopped crafting, since I was the mother of an entire organization, and two at home. In the summer of 2008 my ex-husband fell ill and needed to re-locate to be near his family, so I re-located too. Upon arriving here I started managing the herb shop downtown and fell in love with my wonderful partner Paul. In the winter of 2009 we got the exciting news that we were to have 5th baby! He had two and I had two:) sick and tired for 9 months. Then Sequoia was born at home in a warm pool of water under candlelight. I believe in attachment parenting, so 8 weeks after Sequoia was born we went back to work together. Unfortunately, 6 weeks later the herb shop was raided by the FDA. They claimed that were selling illegal plants. I was out of work. So back to the drawing board I went:) I spent a lot of my day nursing a baby, but managed to find moments here and there…. So I started creating:) I worked for several months and went to a few festivals, but the economy had changed. So I found myself saying ok…. Now what??? I want to be with my baby. That’s when I said ETSY here we go! So here I find myself again doing what I love:) . The rest is still to be written:)
What I do cannot be put into a box, simply because I do so many things. I enjoy painting, drawing and crafting a plethora of unique items. I enjoy working with nature and spirit. Art is energy and that is why I pour love into everything that I do. Enjoy:)
I would like to mention that I am not a registered Native American. I have attended ceremony in the Native Church. I have a deep love, appreciation, and respect for the culture. When something truly touches your spirit it shines through you.
