How I spent my summer vacation…

I took two weeks off from my town job to cut, skive, sew, skive again, stamp, draw, skive some more, draw, more skiving, and some sanding. And in the end, I made a saddle!

When I bought my first stamps six years ago, making a saddle wasn’t even a thought; I was hoping to one day finish a purse, maybe. My point, sometimes an idea, a hobby, an interest takes you in an unexpected direction, follow it! One step at a time, it might lead to an even better adventure than you could have imagined!

Learning new things and making cool s**t.

I’m incredibly grateful to Jace Teller for this opportunity. I almost said no because I was scared, because I wasn’t ready, because I’m not a good enough rider, and because I haven’t been doing leatherwork long enough. I had a lot of excuses born out of fear, and I’m so glad I didn’t. Because it’s been such a fun build!

So, I hope you choose to go for it too. Be brave, take the chance, learn new things, stay curious, grow, and don’t be afraid to take a chance.

Day 2 of sharing Idaho wildflowers, the tooled leather version. Larkspur (Delphinium spp.).

Beautiful and deadly.

Larkspur is a stunning flower with its deep purple color, but it can be poisonous, especially to livestock.

I love its overall shape. It’s a fun one to tool and might have to make an appearance in another project.

Progress. The in-between, when the shape is starting to come together. Just like life, there’s always a messy stage, where some parts are finished and others aren’t. It’s a beautiful part of the process, when you start to see the potential but still have details to figure out.
