Finicky Bee

A Message from the Founder 🐝

I’m so happy and grateful to finally share something I’ve been working on for quite some time.

Finicky Bee now has its own home on the internet: FinickyBee.com

What started as a simple love for finding old, unusual, and beautiful things has slowly grown into something much more meaningful to me.

For me, collecting isn’t just about owning an old object. It’s about the stories behind these things, the people who made them, the hands that once used them, and the little pieces of history that might otherwise be forgotten.

I created Finicky Bee to document those discoveries, research what I can, preserve the information I find, and share the journey with others who enjoy learning about the past as much as I do.

The website is still growing, just like the collection, but I’m proud of where it is today. There is a lot more to come. 🐝

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me, followed my entrepreneurship and collecting journey, watched my Finicky Bee Finds videos, or supported me in one way or another along the way.

I’m truly grateful for all the support, encouragement, and interest that has helped me keep going.

Welcome to Finicky Bee.

**A Rooster That Locks the Lid**

A small cast rooster stands at the front of this charcoal box iron — and it is not only decoration.

Its weight is the catch that locks the hinged lid over the coal chamber.

The iron carries no maker’s mark, so its maker and precise date remain unattributed. At Finicky Bee Finds, we document what the object can prove and leave the unknowns honestly documented.

The Watchful Rooster | Charcoal Box Iron with Figural Rooster Catch | Maker Unattributed

What can a humble household iron tell us about life before electricity became part of the everyday home?

In this edition of Finicky Bee Finds, we examine a charcoal box iron fitted with a figural rooster catch. Through careful observation and documented research, we explore its construction, functional design, evidence of use, decorative details, and the physical record that survives.

From its cast-iron body and wooden handle to its vented lid, charcoal chamber, and distinctive rooster-form latch, each feature offers insight into the craftsmanship and practical design of a tool once used for pressing clothing with burning charcoal. Where documentation exists, it is presented. Where questions remain, they are acknowledged.

Rather than speculate, our goal is to document what can be observed, research what can be supported, and preserve that knowledge for collectors, researchers, and future caretakers.

Quiet Regard | Signed J. Willis Jusco (2007) | Hand-Modeled Earthenware Portrait Relief

Who was the artist behind this expressive hand-modeled portrait relief, and what story does this signed work have to tell?

In this edition of Finicky Bee Finds, we examine Quiet Regard, a one-of-a-kind earthenware portrait relief signed by J. Willis Jusco and dated 2007. Through careful observation and documented research, we explore its craftsmanship, construction, artist's marks, condition, and the physical evidence that survives.

Rather than speculate, our goal is to document what can be observed, research what can be verified, and preserve that knowledge for collectors, researchers, and future caretakers.

📚 New Archive Entry | FB-00015

This vintage Don Quixote figure, marked "HECHO EN MEXICO," has been carefully documented as part of the Finicky Bee Archive.

Every collectible preserves evidence through its physical characteristics, craftsmanship, construction, markings, condition, and the research that can responsibly be supported. This figure is no exception.

During the documentation process, we examined its molded construction, recorded its measurements, documented the red "HECHO EN MEXICO" country-of-origin mark, assessed its condition, and completed research based on the available evidence. While the country of manufacture can be confirmed, the maker and workshop remain unknown. Rather than filling those gaps with assumptions, they remain honestly documented as unknown.

This documentary is part of our ongoing mission to discover, document, preserve, and share collectible personal property so that the documented knowledge preserved with these objects remains available for future collectors, researchers, and caretakers.

Thank you for supporting the preservation of collectible personal property.

Follow Finicky Bee for future archive entries, collectible research, and newly documented finds.

📚 Introducing Finicky Bee Finds — A New YouTube Documentary Series

I’m excited to announce the launch of Finicky Bee Finds, the official documentary series of Finicky Bee.

While Finicky Bee is dedicated to discovering and offering carefully selected vintage, antique, nostalgic, and collectible personal property, Finicky Bee Finds is where I document the remarkable collectibles entrusted to my care before they continue their journey to new caretakers.

Each documentary is created through careful observation and responsible research, preserving the collectible's documented record—including its physical characteristics, craftsmanship, construction, markings, condition, and research findings. When information cannot be verified, it is honestly documented as unknown rather than presented as fact.

I have deep respect for the artists, makers, manufacturers, craftspeople, collectors, and caretakers whose creativity, skill, and dedication allowed these remarkable collectibles to survive through time. Every documentary is my way of helping preserve the documented knowledge associated with these objects so it is not lost to time, allowing future collectors, researchers, and caretakers to continue learning from them.
