Dear everyone,
I have never been so excited to hold a single piece of paper in my life.
If you’ve been following along, you already know this has been anything but an easy journey. It’s been filled with endless hurdles, mountains of paperwork, delays, and enough “almost there” moments to make me question my sanity. But I’m beyond excited to finally say…
As of June 25, we officially have every permit we need to begin building the Elmore Street Market!
Getting to this point has taken every ounce of patience I had (and then some), more tears than I’d like to admit, and the stubborn ability to keep believing this would happen even when it felt like it never would.
Along the way, I’ve had to shut down rumors, ignore gossip, and smile through more nonsense than I care to remember. Apparently we were denied. Apparently the city hated us. Apparently my brother hated me. Apparently we’d never build anything. Plot twist: none of those stories were ever true.
Turns out doing things the right way—asking permission instead of forgiveness—is painfully slow. Would I recommend it? Not necessarily. But I know it’ll be worth it in the long run.
Somewhere between all of this, I accidentally became part architect, learned way more about building codes than any normal person should, and discovered that just when you think you’re detail-oriented, Douglas County politely says, “Hold my beer…we’ve got a few more comments.”
When this journey started, I honestly thought we’d be open by now, welcoming all of our amazing customers. Life had other plans. But after all this time, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I wouldn’t have made it without the incredible friends and family who kept cheering me on, reminding me not to quit when quitting sounded like a pretty reasonable option.
So today, I proudly picked up my laminated, fancy, ridiculously expensive, pain-in-my-ass piece of paper… and I couldn’t be happier.
The real work starts now, and I can’t wait to share every step of what’s next.
