For many people their kitchen and dining area is the heart of their home. That said, I decided to feature more Christmas & winter KITCHEN decor which may be displayed throughout the Christmas season, and in this case, right thru Valentine’s Day!

While nobody would ever want a mouse in their kitchen, THESE mice are extra nice and as you can see, as sweet as can be! They can’t wait to meet you, and travel to their new forever homes, this upcoming holiday season!! 🐭🎄💕

🎉🎉🌲5 DAYS & COUNTING!!🌲🎉🎉

Several weeks ago we shared that we’ll be co-hosting the Exotic Conifer Association’s National Meeting, at our farm this month, with our decades long friends Bustard’s Tree Farm! Since then we’ve been diligently working at both our wholesale sales, and extra farm preparations for the upcoming gathering of industry leaders, experts and fellow exotic tree producers from across the nation.

During OUR day of this 3 day meeting, we’ll be reviewing growing techniques of Exotic Firs, hybridization breeding results, mulching experiments, a seed orchard overview, a greenhouse stop and Q & A sessions throughout the tour.

Celebrating 88 successful years in business is no small feat and we are super, dooper excited to reach this 4th generation, family farm milestone! In order to remain a quality producer of Christmas trees for almost nine decades, we’ve maintained our industry leader standing by pioneering the production of new species of Christmas trees.

Almost 30 years ago we started raising Exotic Fir Christmas trees, in our corner of the world, and our family has worked diligently to grow and market these beautiful Exotic (Nordmann & Turkish Fir) Christmas trees. Many years ago we joined the Exotic Conifer Association so that we could discuss industry specific information with like-minded growers & educators.

Even though this is an extremely busy time of year at our family farm, this meeting is an exciting opportunity to share and receive valuable information about the exotic industry AND the Christmas tree industry as a whole. Attending and hosting meetings such as this aid us in growing YOUR beautiful Hill Farms Christmas tree!

The past few days our granddaughter has been helping me clean, unpack and create displays in our seasonal Christmas/winter wonderland gift shop, The Primitive Pinecone. I most definitely have the best little helper this lolli could possibly ask for!❤️🎄

This particular Fraser Fir definitely adheres to the motto, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” As we are winding down our summertime shearing season, my hubby and son stumbled upon this gigantic leader. Most leaders are 12” to 18” at the time we cut them, however THIS one was over 36”!

Fast forward to earlier this summer when we were asked to co-host the first day, of their three day meeting, at our farm. Of course we happily accepted as we are both honored & excited to host a gathering of top quality growers & educators from across the country.

Even though this is an extremely busy time of year at our family farm, this meeting is an exciting opportunity to share and receive valuable information about the exotic industry and the Christmas tree industry as a whole. Attending and hosting meetings such as this aid us in growing YOUR beautiful Hill Farms Christmas tree!

Weeding our Nordmann Fir seed beds is an important weekly job in raising our farm born babies.

After a year has passed since the initial multi-step processes of pollinating & germinating our Nordmann Fir seeds, those spring planted seeds are growing well! These little ones are 5 months old and counting!

These little guys will now spend another 4-5 years in their nursery (our greenhouse) before they are transplanted out into our fields. At that point it will take another 8-10 years for the planted seedlings to become the gorgeous, 8’ centerpiece of your Christmas celebration!

But hey, who’s counting?? We ARE!😁🎄

During our summer shearing season the guys start between 5:30 & 6:00, in the morning, to beat the late day heat. The added bonus on many mornings is a beautiful sunrise view, AND you also might meet a friendly critter or two!

Late yesterday afternoon/early evening, we received 2.5” of rain in just under 2.5 hours!! Needless to say, everything is looking super green and feeling super humid this morning! Here are some snapshots of ‘shrooms we saw during our morning farm walk. Also, here is a recent farm photo of crimson clover which we planted, as a cover crop, to help with natural soil rejuvenation.
