We haven't posted on social media in quite some time. We've heard wild speculation recently with gossip of our demise and are happy to inform you those speculations are greatly exaggerated. In fact, during our absence from social media, trade shows etc. over the past few years, the business has continued to slowly and steadily grow. You can still find us and all our products at www.purepoisonjigstore.com

We like to be transparent with all our loyal customers which now includes die hard anglers across the globe. So we have to keep you informed of industry changes when they arise to in part educate you, to allow you to make informed decisions and choose the best products for your money. So please forgive the length of the following post.

Since 2020 global trade between the United States and overseas suppliers of many products have experienced wide ranging and often unpredictable fluctuations in supply, demand, and access to various materials driven by a combination of factors. Those include global energy costs, economic conditions abroad, the long term impacts of a global pandemic, various regional conflicts, in Eastern Europe, Africa, The Middle East, diplomatic disputes, and global trade polices and tariffs imposed by the United States in 2025 on most imported materials from virtually every nation who sells anything to the United States, enacted by the current administration.

This recent profound change in trade policy has resulted in significant shifts in international trade alliances, retaliatory tariffs, outright import and export restrictions or bans on sale of certain materials to United States Companies enacted by foreign governments in response, along with global inflationary trends related to advancing manufacturing technology, population shifts and labor cost management. It is not a simple problem. There is no single factor or person to blame. Though some bear more blame than others.

So leave your politics aside if you choose to comment after the next part.

Due to these myriad factors, global demand for Tungsten and other rare earth minerals, and the scarcity of them, (which are usually mostly found in the northern or extreme southern ranges of our planet, in places like Russia, China, Greenland, the Nordic States of Europe or in lesser quantity in extreme southern regions) has caused costs of the raw tungsten ore and other rare minerals to skyrocket. Market prices on these commodities were once priced month to month. Now they are bought and sold on margins that often fluctuate daily. You buy them like you buy fresh fish at a high end restaurant...at market price.

The #1 use for Tungsten globally is military applications, (think rockets, manpads, air to air missiles, torpedoes, anything that flies at supersonic or hypersonic speeds, artillery warheads, and other mu*****ns). Everybody wants it, because everybody needs it.

It is also used in many heavy industries such as oil production, where drilling rigs use bits made of tungsten alloy to drill through rock to find oil and gas. It is used in many heavy industrial settings such as heavy machinery and mining equipment. Automotive companies also utilize it. In short if it needs to made to endure high heat, resist wear, and be hard enough to endure ungodly amounts of physics...tungsten is a global metal of choice.

Fishing lures are made of the left over waste powder generated in Tungsten refining. As are many other small things made of it. Tungsten lures also contain very complex resins, copolymers etc. They are not melted and poured like lead jigs people. You aren't going to make them yourselves.

Tungsten fishing products are manufactured using a complex process involving advanced chemistry, materials science, physics, and computer controlled injection molding. It requires tens of millions of dollars of extremely advanced equipment, multiple environmental and safety controls, and a metric s**t ton of electricity to make a tungsten fishing product factory run.

90 percent of those tungsten fishing components no matter whose label is on them, no matter where you purchase them from, no matter what price point you pay for them, are made in one place. In less than 4 locations. 2 of which are owned by one parent company. They make nearly every tungsten weight, every ice jig, ball jig, and half the jig heads you find in the big box stores. They also make some of ours. Because they are damned good at what they do, and everybody uses them. My friend they are located in China.

Another 5 to 8 percent of your tungsten lures are born in Japan. Japan keeps most of their stuff in Japan, or the Asia Pacific Region. Because it's logistically easier to sell over there, than it is here and they sell lots of cool stuff over there you and I will rarely ever see. They earn most of their money at home. But guess what, they too outsource some production to wanna guess where? That's right, because it's cheaper there than Japan, so Japanese companies own manufacturing assets there, the same way they own car plants here.

The rest comes from Northern Europe, most of which is sold in the EU only.

The harsh reality is simple. Large scale Tungsten manufacturing of fishing products in terms of jigs, weights, spinner baits, crankbait weights, etc. isn't done here. It's never been here, It will never be done here, no matter how hard you wish it to happen, no matter how many slogans you recite, campaigns you wage, or taxes you impose. Yes, tariffs are taxes...like it or not.

Because the costs of prospecting, mining, transporting raw ore, then refining the ore to powder form, then transporting the refined materials to production facilities, all the way across the damned planet, by cargo ship (because the s**t is heavy and air transport of it costs even more money, and last I checked there are no rail roads in the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans) then manufacturing tungsten lures with the leftovers here, is as unrealistic as it is unaffordable.

That being said, as of yesterday, PPJ's cost of tungsten components purchased yesterday, rose 136 percent over what was paid in October 2025. 100 percent of that 136 percent increase were directly attributable to Tariffs and related export fees, and shipping costs. That will not include another 15 percent in state state level taxes, and compliance costs incurred by PPJ to produce these products. The producer of those raw components reports they anticipate another 15 percent rise by Friday, and after that where the price will eventually top out due to cost so high it kills demand is unknown.

Effective Feb 6th 2026 at midnight, PPJ will be adjusting Tungsten Jig Product Prices upward over 2 to 3 stages ,each spaced 45 days apart to reflect the increased costs of production. We will likely reduce quantities sold per pack to keep end point prices down for the users, and we will reduce regular inventory levels kept on hand as our inventory is taxed on it's value every year. Some PPJ tungsten products on the site now, will be replaced. Some will be discontinued outright. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers. But at PPJ we don't carry inventory for it to set unsold or make lures to lose money.

We are currently exploring some alternative alloys for future product development and will make every effort to control costs to our customers.

Now you are an informed customer, and there will be no reason to suffer sticker shock or get mad at us when you purchase a tungsten fishing product later this spring and summer. ff you wish, we can tell you who to call and bitch at about it, but you probably have an idea about that already now don't ya?

Effective immediately we will cease production of Trokar equipped jigs. All models currently in stock ( Tour Edition Peanut Jigs with a Trokar Pro V hooks ) will be discounted and sold until our supply of both weights is exhausted. We will be replacing the current Trokar equipped premium lineup with identical models equipped with Gamakatsu hooks. All current orders for Trokar products are filled and headed out to customers. New photos etc. of the new models will begin appearing online over the next two weeks. All models except the aforementioned Tour Edition Peanuts will be removed from our site this afternoon as soon as time allows.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause some of our loyal online customers as our Trokar models have been very well received over the years. PPJ was one of the first to adopt the Trokar hook when they were introduced. We are disappointed to stop using them.

However this decision on our part was driven by corporate decisions at the parent company of Eagle Claw to transition away from bulk sales of Trokar hooks in favor of packaged sales in smaller quantities at higher prices with no discounts for small or mid size manufacturers and to wholesale hook suppliers who we utilize in our supply chain. This was compounded by discontinuation of key hook models central to our lineup as well.

PPJ has built its reputation over nearly two decades of online sales and sales to independently owned tackle dealers by producing superior products built to higher standards, which produce results, because fishing is our passion. These are more than slogans. They are our core values and guide everything we do. That’s why you find them on page one of our web store. Part of those core values also includes bringing superior products to our dealers and individual customers at fair, market competitive prices every angler can afford. Our new lineup that will replace the Trokar collection allows PPJ to continue to honor those core values.

That being said, we know you see it. Because we see it. For the last few years many companies have navigated the current economy by giving you less for more. Smaller quantities, at higher prices, cheaper components, abrupt discontinuation of whole product lines without equitable replacements or alternatives…manipulation of inventory levels to increase demand, elimination of discounts or increased minimum order requirements, higher shipping fees, bulls**t “market adjustments”, required subscription services and product bundles, and hosts of made up add on adjustments or fees for every type of product you can imagine from automobiles to services you buy from healthcare, financial instruments, banking, even to how you watch college football on your cotton picking television. All intended to eliminate competition in the marketplace, give you less for your dollar spent and to reduce your choices as a consumer.

As long as I own and control PPJ that will never happen. We don’t abuse our dealers, we protect them. We also value and seek to maintain relationships with our online customers the same way. Because that corporate loyalty shown to our clients will endure far longer than hard times. At PPJ its understood that once the storms are past, those we’ve done right by during hard times, even when it hurt our bottom line a bit, will exponentially reward us with thier loyalty and purchasing choices when times are good again. We also understand tough patches never last, good times don’t last forever either and how you behave during both demonstrates the true values of a business and reflects the character of those who own, work for and lead them.

That’s how PPJ has navigated every “crisis” since 2004. That’s why we offer our clients flexible options to complete purchases online and accept multiple forms of electronic payment with zero extra fees tacked on. Thats why we still offer over 100 colors and 40 different jig configurations at our online store. It’s why I continue to answer the phone calls and e-mails personally. It’s why I take custom orders and if the parts to make those are on hand, at PPJ, we don’t upcharge for custom work.

That’s how PPJ has continued to slowly grow in a manageable and controlled manner every single year since 2005 and how we expect to continue to grow going forward. It’s the same mind set that has improved our processes, created innovative product lines, reduced costs of production and has improved fulfillment times and customer satisfaction rankings which rival those of any big box brand on earth without exception. PPJ isn’t afraid to compete anywhere, any time, against anyone, at any level…and we don’t care how others do it…we compete against self first. The rest takes care of itself.

There will be no price increases at PPJ on the new Gamakatsu lineup. There will be no wholesale, bulk or retail price increases on our entire product line for the remainder of 2023. We’ve held the line on prices despite inflation and increased interest rates etc. since Jan 2022 and at this time will not consider further adjustments in our market prices or margins until the end of April 2024.

I encourage those who wish to “ wipe out” the remaining stocks of our Tour Edition Peanuts currently in stores to visit Jerry’s Baitshop in Rockwood, EZ Troll Outdoors in Kingston, Mckee Outdoors in Greenback and Halls Sports and Outdoors in Jamestown and sweep the pegs while you have the chance.

For online customers I have 700 units of the 5/16 Tour Edition Peanut Head with Pro V hook Remaining and 350 units of the 1/2 oz jig heads on hand and ready to go. The new pricing for those will be online by 700 PM tonight. You know what to do…

And starting in 2024 PPJ will be selling a variety of tungsten terminal tackle under our brand including Shakey Heads worm weights, nail weights, drop shot stuff, swim jig heads and we are adding 2 new tungsten jigs to the lineup and 5 custom inked skirt colors that are going to blow you away.

I thank you for your business and support of the independent tackle dealers who carry my products.

All internet orders are filled and will be in route to customers tomorrow morning.

McKee Outdoors has been fully reloaded with all models and all colors he required. We know there has been a run on our infamous smoky mountain craw hue and rest assured Mr, McKee has em in quantities in everything you need.

Jerry’s bait shop in Rockwood will be receiving a big ol shipment that will fill all those empty pegs Mrs. Donna has cleared recently in about 48 more hours. Including flipping jigs and Trokar Tour Edition Peanut Head Jigs.

We will be checking in on our remaining dealers later this week if any of you guys need something pronto, just pick up the bat phone because Area 51 is now on war footing once again and we are turning out the jigs…rapidly. (Our mail lady and UPS man can attest to that)

We are extremely pleased to announce something coming very soon. We have now secured the necessary supply chains, the R &D is done…the prototyping is done. Our next step is limited initial commercial production.

By late fall this year, PPJ will be producing an entire lineup of Premium products including football heads, flipping jigs, peanut heads, and a absolutely nasty, 3/4 oz heavy cover flipping jig you can snag a tuna with…all of which will feature Owner Silky Jungle Hooks or Owner Cutting Points. Xo Wire construction means lighter, thinner, and stronger hooks…More compact, more corrosion resistant, and simply put, the sharpest hook you have ever seen, that is also durable even under the worst conditions.

This new lineup meets the standards you find emblazoned across our home page. “ Products Built to Higher Standards” and Products which Produce Results” in every way. At PPJ our mantras haven’t changed in 17 years. This new product line is proof they don’t need to change either.

We think the new premium lineup is going to be well received by pros and amateurs alike. The initial trial results have been impressive. Extremely impressive. In fact, we think this lineup will be unrivaled by anyone…without exception.

This premium lineup will compliment our standard models which feature mustad hooks, which will never go away. So no worries there folks. The premium lineup will feature jigs with some new wrinkles including a compact 3/8 football head which our customers have been requesting for quite some time. A swim jig with the owner system is also imminent.

Additionally, we will be adding 34 more new colors to the largest skirt color selection chart in the industry. We will be displaying this lineup in its own separate collection online in a few weeks. ( as we don’t have room to add items to the one currently on display which has 100 already) and this winter we are considering another skirt gallery where you can acquire some of our “throwback colors” which are very hard to find, unless you know somebody with connections…

As is our tradition, It’s almost time for the Gary Lindsey Memorial Bass Tournament. And once again this year, we are putting 500 bucks on that smallmouth lunker’s head to sweeten the pot.

Thank you for your business and support of our fine dealers. See you on the water.

All internet orders are filled and out the door. Thank you for your business.

Now for some announcements.

We are pleased to report our little business just keeps quietly chugging along, ignoring all the hyperbole you see in the industry when things lean up and the competition for your money intensifies as every anglers budget tightens with the ebb and flow of economic slowdowns. For those who don’t get it yet, the industry is slowing post pandemic and some of the issues present then, remain problematic now. Some even more so than they were in the recent past. These issues aren’t going away anytime soon either. No company in this already highly competitive space is immune. Ours included.

But what makes us different, is we have weathered storms before...and came out stronger when they passed. Because when times get a little dicey we maintain our focus. We keep right on building quality gear. We don’t skimp on components, we don’t reduce quantities and yes we charge a fair price for them. We sell in 3 packs and 2 packs to save money on the packaging and printing and we concentrate on keeping our brick and mortar guys protected and in business and keeping the old internet engine well tuned and the online store modern, and filled with stuff you can buy and not wait on a back order for.

We focus on customers. One jig at a time. Delivering products built to higher standards, with proven performance and a reputation forged in the fires of competition that delivers results as promised. As we always have.

That being said, several months ago we added shop pay to our Shopify site as an option for all customers. A neat option through Affirm, where you the consumer, can divide your purchase into 4 equal installments paid once every two weeks, automatically billed to your credit card, interest free with zero hidden fees or interest.

A few weeks ago we opened this option to our network of small privately owned tackle shops who sell our stuff, because it helps them and it helps PPJ as well.

Now we have a whole new wrinkle we are going to add effective tonight. Full disclosure this option is also through affirm, but it is not interest free. However, those who decide to utilize this payment option, in which you can divide your purchases into monthly installments, will find the rate lower than you guessed and you can now purchase up to 17,500 dollars worth of PPJ products and divide your payments into installments billed over 12 months. That opens a whole new avenue for prospective new dealers and distributors. We get our money up front and both buyer and seller are protected. But you don’t have to be a tackle shop or wholesaler to use this option either…You the average customer can use it as well. When you checkout at our site you can read all about the monthly installment plans available and choose the one that fits for you.

This gives us the same capabilities you see with the big boys retailers who don’t carry our stuff. It gives you more flexibility in your fishing budget as well.

It’s also one reason we committed to our dealer network and you our online clients, to hold prices steady with no further product price increases throughout 2022. We will continue to use a flat rate 10.00 shipping fee with free shipping over a minimum order threshold. We don’t hide our shipping fees in the product costs and say we don’t charge shipping. Any business who tells you shipping is “free” isn’t being transparent with you. Nothing is free ( especially shipping materials, not to mention diesel fuel and jet fuel) and shipping costs constitute a significant portion of the prices you pay on those sites and those costs are concealed inside the price charged for the product. Period, end of story…There we said it…

We know things are tight right now for many of our clients. So we do all we can to make it a little easier for you to keep using our products. It’s why Purepoisonjigstore.com is ranked in the top tier of Shopify performing sites for satisfied customers and why the search engines label us as a trusted site.

It’s also why when this latest set of challenges pass, and they will eventually pass, PPJ will emerge stronger than ever. Just as we did before. Remain calm and keep casting…you can bet we will be doing exactly that.

Thanks for your business. See you on the water.

We are sending some refills to Jerry’s bait shop this week as well as getting a big old shipment ready for EZ Troll Outdoors this evening. EZ Troll is adding two more new 2022 colors to thier lineup a watermelon magic hue which is an exact match to the zoom products of that name and a new color they commissioned us to make just for them we are dubbing ”EZ Melon” You are gonna like both.

We currently have 900 units of the 5/16 Tour Edition Trokar jigs on hand and once this supply is exhausted this will be the end of the Trokar equipped tour edition model. We also have around 1400 units of the 1/2 oz model with 500 on hand and 900 more in production now that will be available end of April or early may. But, don’t fret. We have found a replacement for hook for this lineup ( A Mustad Pro V style with needlepoint) that hits like a freight train. Has an oversized 30 degree eyelet (vertical) which has frankly revealed to us another wrinkle for this lineup…Because now you can not only flip it, you can use it as swim jig in grassy stuff. Once we get those into mass production we will put them on our website in in our brick and mortar dealers.

In May we will also make our new tungsten NED heads available online. 97 percent tungsten, 2/0 black nickel hooks and double wire w**d guard set up. Those will be available in 1/10 oz and 1/6 oz initially with other weights to follow.

Thank you for your business and supporting our fine local dealers.

Well, well well. The Bassmaster classic is returning to Fort Loudon in 2023. Was gonna post a story here at PPJ but instead I am gonna post it on a more appropriate page ( my personal one ). If you wish to read it there you can find it if you look.

In 2018 PPJ called our shot before the last one…darn near pulled it off too.

Well…may as well do it again…

So here goes…in 2023 at the Bassmaster Classic on Fort Loudon Lake PPJ will be in the damned mix right up until the final cast is made on championship Sunday…

This time it’s gonna probably be red, orange, green, black and brown…it’s gonna act differently from anything out there and it’s gonna wreck em all over the place…

But this time, it’s gonna be a “unknown red crank bait of local origin” hand made from wood.

That’s right you heard me…I didn’t stutter…and I have a whole year to get it dialed in. You would be stunned to see what can happen in Area 51 In a year…PPJ has a reputation for surprises…

Consider this post a throwing down of the gauntlet of sorts…and a warning…This time it’s not about the publicity, the credit, the resume builder, the potential money to be made afterwards…There are no points left to prove to anyone about being able to compete on anglings biggest stage for our stuff. None of that matters to me anymore.

This time It’s personal…

Now all that is left to do is find out which qualifier out there after this season is gonna need one or a dozen, and is going to call me to get his made first once I get it dialed in…and there won’t be any freebies handed out to anyone for any reason, no matter how much they beg or who they send to beg for more on their behalf, once the real fishing starts. They won’t be available in local shops where a peg can be cleared in the practice rounds and I won’t be accepting promises…or compliments, traded gear, or referrals to others in exchange for them…bring your a Visa cards or cash instead…

Thanks to everyone who came to see me today at the McKee Outdoors booth and load up on your PPJ. I and Matt appreciate your business. We moved some serious jig weight today and sincerely thank all who came this week before I arrived and those who returned today to make custom orders knowing I was there to take them.

As predicted, our crank bait blank inventory is now 0…as in all gone…none left…it only took 53 minutes once I arrived today.

We still have absolutely killer deals on all PPJ jigs, (think 35 to 50 percent off retail before bulk discounts are applied) so if you haven’t exploited this once a year chance to load your tackle box in advance of spring, you may want to come see me tomorrow. Last day 10 to 5. Knoxville expo center off Merchants drive. Just look for the traffic circling the expo center…you can’t miss it.

I usually don’t promote other brands on my pages, however when I find something really good, I don’t hesitate to help out another lure maker.
You need to visit the show and go check out River Rock Baits. Guys I have been using them for a year, and today I reloaded. That should tell you all you need to know. You won’t find better custom soft plastics than the ones these guys are making. Tell them I sent you.

I would also like to congratulate Mr. Ott Defoe…Ott, in 17 years of selling products (mine and others) at this show, I have never seen a single product move as fast, and in the quantities I am seeing your Rapala OG Flat and OG mini move like I did today. ( they are within arms reach of me, so I am assisting by simply pointing at them as people come into the McKee Outdoors booth complex looking for them and have educated several about the rootbeer hued ones) You have a not one, but two, bona fide superstar level baits there. Congratulations sir. I salute you. I am planning on picking up a couple tomorrow myself if any are left….

So, all you folks debating on attending the show, if you want the OGs, you all better hurry on down. Additionally, Matt also has everything you could possibly want or need in one booth…seriously…and the rods are flying outta there. Come see us tomorrow and don’t miss out…
