Ingredients
For the French Toast Bites:
* 1 loaf of cinnamon bread (or any bread of your choice, like brioche or challah)
* 3 large eggs
* 1/2 cup milk
* 1/2 cup heavy cream
* 1/4 cup granulated sugar
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* Butter or oil, for greasing the pan
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
* 1/4 cup granulated sugar
* 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
For the Glaze:
* 1 cup powdered sugar
* 2-3 tablespoons milk
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare the Bread
Cut the Bread:
* Slice the cinnamon bread into bite-sized cubes. If you’re using other types of bread, make sure they are sliced into cubes about 1-inch in size. For extra crunch, you can let the bread cubes sit out for a few hours or overnight to dry out slightly.
2. Make the French Toast Mixture
Mix Ingredients:
* In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until well combined.
3. Coat the Bread Cubes
Soak the Bread:
* Add the bread cubes to the egg mixture. Gently toss the bread cubes in the mixture until they are well coated. Allow them to soak for a few minutes, so the mixture is absorbed into the bread.
Cook the French Toast Bites
1. Preheat the Pan:
* Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter or oil.
2. Cook the Bites:
* Add the soaked bread cubes to the hot skillet, making sure not to overcrowd them. Cook the bread cubes for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. You may need to cook in batches.
* In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
* While the French toast bites are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until they are evenly coated.
Mix Glaze Ingredients:
* In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed. The glaze should be pourable but not too runny.
Dust with cinnamon sugar
* Serve warm, and enjoy these delicious bites with fresh fruit, maple syrup, or a dollop of whipped cream.
