Ever looked at that sticky, forgotten bottle of essential oil in your cabinet and wondered if it’s still okay to use? Let’s talk about the “Rancidity Clock” and why it matters.

Essential oils aren’t immortal. Once that cap is cracked, the clock starts. Oxidation turns botanicals into potent skin and respiratory irritants. If a bottle has that gummy residue like the one in this photo, it’s officially past its prime. 🕒

For our feline friends, this is a major deal. Cats lack the specific liver enzymes needed to process many of these compounds. What smells like a relaxing spa day to an adult can be an overwhelming load for a cat or a respiratory irritant for small children.

There’s a lot of "Candle Fiction" out there. Brands promise these incredible burn times, but they often achieve it by using a tiny, weak wick. Sure, the candle lasts forever, but it "tunnels" straight down the middle, leaving a wall of wasted wax stuck to the sides.

Even worse? A weak wick doesn't get hot enough to actually throw the scent. You’re left with a tiny, struggling flame and almost zero fragrance. Total buzzkill.

While the idea of botanical bliss is appealing, the reality of Essential Oils (EOs) is far less regulated than many realize. The FDA doesn't actually define or pre-vet EOs for safety or purity before they hit the shelves. It’s an unregulated frontier where "natural" can mean almost anything, leading to major inconsistencies in safety. 🌿

In contrast, lab-tested fragrances are held to the incredibly strict standards of IFRA. These are rigorously tested for:
- Heat stability
- Skin safety and sensitization
- Consistent, reliable performance

Remember, "natural" isn't a synonym for "safe." Being an informed consumer is the best way to keep your home smelling great and staying safe. ✨
