We just returned from vacation on Minnesota’s North Shore.
I always hike up the Split Rock River looking for steelhead in the Spring of the year. Our Spring trip doesn’t usually coincide with the steelhead run, but often there are a few fish still in the river.
This year I finally got a big enough net, worthy of any bona fide steelheader, and on Thursday morning, a 25”er inhaled my size 10 Prince nymph, and took it for a ride, and sometime later came to net.
My, they can spin your reel! What a thrill!

Pink Salmon were in the Baptism River at Tettegouche State Park when I fished there on Thursday, even though the flow was drastically reduced. Some had already spawned and died and were seen in the bottom of pools, while others were still very active and put up a good fight after being hooked.
The last time I fished them was about three years ago and I caught only the hump-backed males. Yesterday, I caught only females.
