Sometimes kids don’t need more worksheets, they need a new way to practice. 🌈 This simple caterpillar activity turns number practice into hands-on play!

Write numbers on dot stickers, mix them up, and have your child match each number to the correct spot on the caterpillar. 🐛

It’s such an easy activity, but they’re working on so many important early math skills:
✨ Number recognition
✨ Number sequencing & counting
✨ Visual matching
✨ Fine motor skills
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Focus & problem-solving

And peeling and placing the stickers gives little hands extra fine-motor practice while keeping them engaged. 🙌

This one is so simple but SO satisfying 🙌 NUMBER SMASH! 🔢🎨

Write numbers all over a piece of paper, call out a number, and let your child find it and SMASH it with a dot marker! Keep going until they’ve found them all.

It’s an easy way to sneak learning into play while working on number recognition, visual scanning, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills - and there’s something about getting to smash the answer that makes kids want to keep going. 😂

Everyone says they want kids on screens less… but are we actually willing to let kids act like kids in public? 👀

Kids wiggle. They get loud sometimes. They ask a million questions. They touch things. They get bored. They need to move. They don’t always sit quietly through dinner, appointments, errands, or their sibling’s activities.

And somewhere along the way, it started to feel like handing them a screen was easier than risking the judgmental looks.

I’m all for teaching our kids how to behave appropriately in public. But there’s a BIG difference between teaching manners and expecting little kids to behave like tiny adults.

If we want a more screen-free childhood, we have to make a little more room for actual childhood. ❤️

And yes - bring the books, crayons, stickers, little activities and snacks. 😉 But also… let them wiggle.

I said what I said: toddlers don’t need tablets. 👀

They need books they can flip through over and over.
Crayons, paper, stickers, puzzles, and a little mess.
They need dirt under their fingernails, sticks turned into swords, and time to be BORED enough to use their imagination.

Technology will be part of their lives soon enough.

But childhood? That window is short.

I’m not anti-technology. I’m pro giving our kids as much hands-on, screen-free childhood as we can while we still get to choose. 🤍

Learning to spell their name starts with something as simple as a few Post-it Notes! 📝🌈

Write one letter of your child’s name on each Post-it Note, mix them up, and have them put the letters back in the correct order to build their name.

Why start with their name? Because it’s one of the most meaningful words a preschooler can learn! 💛 This simple activity helps build:

✨ Letter recognition
✨ Letter sequencing
✨ Name recognition
✨ Left-to-right progression
✨ Early spelling skills
✨ Fine motor skills

As a former Pre-K teacher, I love using a child’s name to introduce early literacy because they’re naturally motivated to recognize and build a word that belongs to THEM.

Make it easier: Write their name nearby so they can use it as a guide.

Make it harder: Mix up the letters and have them build it completely from memory!

Simple. Screen-free. And you can set it up in about a minute. 🙌
