I just sent out my last wholesale order for the week. It’s going to Sevierville, TN, the hometown of Dolly Parton and where my mom lives.
I have a forty year history with Dolly. The day I finally met her when I was six years old is permanently etched into memory. I was starstruck and shy. She leaned down and grabbed my hands to say something I cannot recall because I must’ve blacked out. I remember the smell of her perfume and cinnamon rolls, and how generous and genuine she was with her time. The crowd around her was gushing over her but she stood there paying special attention to each one of them, complimenting them, and showing genuine warmth. While my music tastes changed, she still remained a woman I admired continually. I’m not sure I can point out a more likable human. Her philanthropy was unmatched.
I started a tradition yesterday of donating $9.25 to Dolly’s Imagination Library in her honor. I set my calendar to remind me each year. It’s a modest donation but it’s something I know I can commit to. And $9.25 (9 to 5) seemed like a good number to land on. I invite you to join me!
At the end of the day, we can all aspire to be more like her. She was an incredible gift to this world and we really need people like her at this moment in history. Let’s pick up where she left off, in any way we can. 💕
I will also have a restock of my Dolly earrings and pins, along with her rainbow print and stickers this week. I want to donate a portion of sales to a good cause if anyone has suggestions.
