John and Annette Ostrom started Bargain John’s Antiques in 1968 when after buying and selling from their residence and renting all the local garages they could find. They decided to build a 5,000 square foot building on the corner of Van Buren & Walnut Street, here in Lexington, Nebraska. They operated in this building for about 1 year and then bought the additional property located at 700 Washington Blvd, where our offices and main showrooms are still located today.

This exquisite Antique Oak double secretary side-by-side is truly one of the finest pieces we have ever acquired. It is a stunning example of quarter-sawn oak, featuring exceptional craftsmanship and intricate carvings that you really need to see in detail.

Key features include shaped doors with adjustable shelving on both glass storage sides, beveled mirror, round columns providing both beauty and utility.

This is an American Victorian Walnut Marble Hall Mirror, dating back to the early 1880s. This highly ornate hall stand features extensive carved details characteristic of the American Victorian Aesthetic Movement. Crafted from premium walnut wood and features a distinctive, Brown marble-top shelf base over a storage drawer . The large central mirror is flanked by finely turned architectural columns that structurally support small display shelves and cast brass hooks for coats or hats. Originally came from an estate sale in Akron, Ohio. The old original beveled mirror is dated on the back January 3rd, 1881. Measures 99″ Height, 51″ Wide and 15″ Depth. This outstanding Victorian Mirror demands it own space. This magnificent Victorian mirror functions as a spectacular focal point, effortlessly anchoring your entire room with its grand presence. This can be viewed at our antique shop in Lexington, Nebraska. (ask to look in the back building).

This is an antique Black Forest Hall Tree (or hall stand), a famous style of intricate, hand-carved wooden furniture originating from Switzerland (predominantly the Brienz region) during the 19th and early 20th centuries. While Black Forest hall trees most famously feature bears climbing trees, this specific piece is a highly collectible and rarer variation featuring a full-body carved Chamois (a species of mountain goat native to the European Alps). This hall tree feature a lifelike, hand-carved Chamois standing on a rocky outcrop. The main post is masterfully carved to resemble a realistic alpine fir or oak tree trunk. The branches at the top branch out naturally to act as functional coat and hat hooks. The twisted wooden rail wrapping around the middle acts as a cane and umbrella holder, which empties into a carved drip pan at the very bottom. Measures 87″ Height, 26″ wide and 25″ Depth .

Here is a new toy that we added to our showroom. Antique National Oak Floor Model Cash Register This is a wonderful floor model cash register made by National.

This register is in original finish, has the cast sign National on the Quarter sawn oak beveled panel sides. These cabinets in this kind of original condition are a thing of the past. This machine has a personal sign on the back that reads: Ed. N. Waterbury. The machine has the Amount Purchase Sign on the top. Each drawer bell rings to a different tone except drawer A. The back of the cabinet has a counter on the door so every time it was opened it would add automatically.
We assume this machine came from Charles City, Iowa. Edgar N. Waterbury was a prominent historic merchant and clothier in Charles City, Iowa, operating during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Historical business records from Floyd County reveal several key details about his life and career: E. N. Waterbury (born 1865) was an early resident of Iowa and part of the prominent Waterbury family tied to Floyd County history. His family lineage connects to early regional figures, including Jessie Ann Waterbury (1858–1944), who also lived and passed away in Charles City. Iowa. He was the principal partner of Waterbury E. N. & Co., a well-known retail clothing and men’s furnishings establishment located in downtown Charles City. 1912-13 Charles City, Iowa Directory Waterbury E N & Co (Edgar N Waterbury, M Despres), clothing.
