Anomalist's Books & Brews The used bookstore is closed at this time except for periodic events. I plan to provide a location for folks to purchase books regarding unusual subjects.

An Anomalist is just someone who is interested in unusual things.I'm a very skeptical person that tries to remain open minded.I'm an agnostic regarding the existence of anything until I see definitive clear evidence for it's existence.

“If everything you offered was not enough, offer your absence.”

Sometimes you give people your time, loyalty, care, patience, forgiveness, and love — but they still fail to value you. You keep trying harder, explaining more, giving more, hoping one day they will finally understand your worth.

But the truth is, some people only realize your value when they no longer have access to you.

Your absence is not revenge. It is self-respect. It is the moment you stop begging to be appreciated and start choosing peace over pain.

If your presence was taken for granted, let your silence speak. If your efforts were ignored, let your distance teach.

Because sometimes the strongest thing you can offer is not another chance — it is walking away.

So ask yourself — are you still giving your best to someone who already proved they don’t value it?

How can I blame the wind for the mess it made, if it was me who opened the window?

Sometimes the damage in our lives does not come only from others — it comes from the access we gave them. We allow certain people, habits, memories, and situations into our peace, and later wonder why everything feels broken.

Accountability is painful, but it is powerful. The moment you realize that not every storm entered by force, but through a window you opened, you also realize you have the power to close it.

Protect your peace. Choose your access wisely. Not everything deserves a place inside your life.

A group of Italian teenagers chasing rumors beneath their school gym ended up uncovering an 1,800-year-old Roman luxury home.

Students at Cavour High School in Rome had long whispered about hidden rooms beneath the gym floor. After several students explored the underground passages and alerted a teacher, archaeologists launched an excavation in early 2026.

What they found was part of a lavish second century AD Roman domus, or private residence, located just steps from the Colosseum. The house featured decorative frescoes, ornate stucco ceilings, and a high status mosaic floor that would have belonged to a wealthy Roman family. Archaeologists believe the home may have been owned by a member of the Umbrius family.

Only a small portion of the villa has been excavated so far, with much of it still extending beneath the school. Plans are already being discussed to eventually open the site to the public, with students potentially serving as guides to the ancient home they helped bring back to light.

The Toba catastrophe theory suggests that modern human evolution was profoundly impacted by a massive volcanic eruption.

Over the past three to five million years, after the divergence of humans from other ape lineages, various human species emerged. However, around 70,000 to 75,000 years ago, the Toba caldera in Indonesia experienced a category 8 or “mega-colossal” eruption on the Volcanic Explosivity Index. This event drastically altered Earth’s climate, reducing global temperatures by 3 to 3.5 degrees Celsius for several years and potentially triggering an ice age.

The extreme environmental changes caused severe population bottlenecks—sharp declines in species populations due to catastrophic events such as natural disasters, famine, disease, or drought.

These bottlenecks accelerated the genetic differentiation of isolated human groups. As a result, all other human species eventually went extinct, leaving only the lineage that evolved into modern humans.

According to some biologists, humans and Neanderthals shouldn’t have been able to breed – but they did: https://bbc.in/4hmil56
