There are multiple Facebook posts and comments going around regarding food vendors for the Marshmallow Festival, and we would like to take a moment to clarify some opinions with the facts.
Returning vendors are given the first opportunity to participate each year, whether they are from Ligonier or outside of Ligonier. The majority of our veteran vendors return, leaving very few openings. Once spaces are filled, we maintain a waitlist in case of cancellations, which are rare.
This year, we already have five Mexican food vendors participating. With limited space, we also have a responsibility to provide a variety of food options for the entire community. This is not about excluding any particular business.
We also want to clarify comments regarding Food Truck Fridays. Vendors were not personally invited. There was an open application available for interested food trucks to complete. We do not personally reach out and choose certain vendors over others.
While some posts are being presented as speaking for the “Ligonier community,” they represent the opinions of a few community members, not necessarily our community as a whole. We hear many different opinions and preferences, and our responsibility is to consider everyone.
The Marshmallow Festival is an all volunteer organization. Our volunteers fundraise and plan all year to continue this longtime tradition. We work hard to provide free entertainment, family activities, traditions people look forward to, and even new bands and experiences we have never brought to the festival before. It is discouraging to see that work overshadowed by negativity surrounding one decision when so much time, effort, and heart goes into creating an enjoyable weekend for our entire community.
We absolutely encourage everyone to support our local businesses year round, and we welcome interested vendors to apply for future festivals. We hope everyone comes out this weekend, supports all of our participating vendors, enjoys the free entertainment, and celebrates the Marshmallow Festival with us.
