I am an Oregon photographer raging against our increasingly tropical weather on the coast, taking dramatic black and white nature photos when I can. But it’s worth it, I love capturing the changing shapes of nature, and the drama between light and dark in a rough monochrome!
B&W photography is a fine art that's an abstraction of reality. It relies upon form, texture, lines, contrast, tonality, and composition to grab the viewer. With no bright colors to draw viewers in, the B&W photographer must master these concepts. Done well, you will have a very polished and powerful photograph! This is what I strive for in my own photography.

However she is right about the cigarette butts. Unfortunately baning smoking would work about as well as prohibition did.
