I think today I finally admitted something to myself.

I haven’t quite felt like myself lately.

My energy has been low, and some days I feel completely drained for reasons I can’t explain. And I’m starting to realize that maybe not all exhaustion comes from being physically busy.

My son becoming a United States Airman has been one of the proudest experiences of my life. Watching him become the man he is becoming fills my heart in ways I can’t put into words.

But this new chapter has also been harder on this mom than I expected.

I’m learning how to let go. I’m learning that I can’t always know where he’ll be, when I’ll see him next, or what the future will look like. I’m learning how to carry enormous pride and worry in the same heart.

And maybe carrying all of that every day is exhausting me a little more than I’ve wanted to admit.

I think I’ve been so focused on being proud of him, supporting him, and adjusting to this new chapter that I haven’t really allowed myself to acknowledge how much this transition has affected me too.

I know with time I’ll find my new normal. But for now, I’m learning that it’s okay to miss the life we had while still being incredibly proud of the life he chose. ❤️🇺🇸

And to the military moms and dads who have walked through this transition before me—I think I’m finally beginning to understand.

🇺🇸I WANT TO SEE YOUR MILITARY PHOTOS!🇺🇸

One of my favorite things is seeing photographs of the men and women who have served our country — especially those old pictures tucked away in family albums from decades ago. ❤️

So today, I would LOVE for you to fill my comments with them.

Share a photo of yourself or someone you love who served or is currently serving.

It can be from the 1960s, 70s, 80s, 90s, yesterday or today. Every generation. Every branch. 🇺🇸

And if you’re comfortable, tell me who they are, what branch they served in, and approximately when they served.

I can’t wait to see the faces and stories behind the uniforms. ❤️

Let’s fill these comments with generations of service. 🇺🇸

I don’t think it has fully registered with me yet.

I say the words all the time now:

My son is an Airman.

I watched him leave for Basic Military Training. I watched him march at graduation. I watched him receive his coin. I watched him stand there in uniform.

I cried. I was proud. I took the pictures. I hugged him.

And somehow, I still don’t think my heart completely understands what happened.

Our children don’t simply leave home and put on a uniform. They go through an enormous transition from the children we raised into men and women who have chosen to serve something much bigger than themselves.

And every Airman has a story behind that uniform.

The young man standing beside my son in this picture became one of his friends during BMT. His journey especially stayed with me because he left behind his country, his family, his friends, and everything familiar to begin a completely new life here and serve in the United States Air Force.

Two young men standing side by side.

Two completely different stories.

But now they share something that very few people ever will.

They are Airmen. 🇺🇸

And while they’re learning discipline, responsibility, service and sacrifice, something is changing for their families too.

We’re learning a whole new language of squadrons, tech schools, duty stations, orders and deployments.

We’re learning that we can’t always know where they’ll be.

We can’t always call when we want to.

We can’t always protect them the way we did when they were children.

Sometimes I look at pictures like this and have to remind myself what I’m actually looking at.

That’s my son.

The same child I raised. The same boy whose entire life I watched unfold in front of me.

Except he’s not a little boy anymore.

He’s a United States Airman.

I say those words all the time now, but I’m not sure they’ve completely registered in my heart yet.

Maybe that’s part of this transition for us parents, too.

Our children are learning how to become Airmen while we’re learning how to let our children become Airmen.

And I think both take a little time. ❤️🇺🇸

There’s something special about buying handmade. ❤️

You’re not buying something that came off an assembly line.

You’re buying something someone cut, sanded, stained, painted and put together with their own two hands.

You’re supporting early mornings, long workdays, big dreams, and a small business owner who still gets excited every single time someone chooses something she made.

I may complain about the sawdust all over my house sometimes 😂, but I genuinely love what I do.

So on Labor Day, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported my little business—whether you’ve purchased something, stopped by my booth, shared a post, left a comment, or simply told a friend about me.

You allow me to keep doing something I love. And I don’t take that for granted. ❤️

Now I’m curious… how did you first find Daniela’s Designs?

Any day now. 💙🇺🇸

Those three words have been running through my mind constantly.

Any day now, my son could find out where his first duty station will be.

Fellow military moms and dads — do you remember where your child’s first duty station was? And how did your heart handle finding out? ❤️

I watched him train for two years for this. I watched him work incredibly hard, push himself, change his life, and prepare for the day he would finally leave for the Air Force.

And right before he left for BMT, he gave me a memory I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

I got to run five miles with my son on a trail.

I remember running beside him and thinking, I’m running next to a future Airman.

It’s difficult to explain what that felt like as his mom. I had watched him work toward this moment for two years, and there I was, running beside the young man I raised, knowing that in just a few days I would have to let him go.

The pride I felt during those five miles is something I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put completely into words. ❤️

Then I watched him leave for BMT.

I counted down the days until I could see him again. I watched him graduate and become a United States Airman. Then came Tech School.

And now we’re waiting for the next piece of his Air Force journey.

Where will he go? How far away will he be? What will his life look like there?

As his mom, part of me is so excited for him. I want him to see the world, experience things I never could have given him, grow in his career, and build a life he’s proud of.

And then there’s the mom part of me quietly thinking…

Please don’t let him be too far away. ❤️

That’s something I’m learning about being an Air Force mom.

You can spend years encouraging them to chase their dreams. You can raise them to be independent. You can stand on the sidelines cheering while they accomplish everything they worked so hard for…

and still wish you could keep them just a little closer.

So now I wait. And pray. 🙏

Wherever those orders eventually send my son, there will be one incredibly proud mom back home cheering him on every mile of the way. 💙🇺🇸

Aim High, Airman. Mom loves you. ❤️🇺🇸

Football season may be kicking off tomorrow 🏈, but you’ll still find me at the Haymarket Farmers' Market on Q Street, right next to Daniel’s Produce! ❤️

I’ll have plenty of my handmade door signs with me for just $20, including football, fall, everyday designs and more.

And I’ll admit, this Air Force mama’s heart is feeling a little extra tender today. 💙🇺🇸 I’m incredibly proud of my son and the life he’s building, but I’m also learning that pride and missing your child can exist in the exact same moment. Some days are simply harder than others.

So tomorrow I’ll do what I always do — set up my little booth, talk to all of you, create some smiles, and probably think about my Airman a hundred times in between. ❤️

If you’re heading downtown, come say hello. I’d truly love to see you.
