TAYLORMADE INTRODUCES 14 DEGREE SLDR DRIVER

The introduction of the 14-degree SLDR driver has presented one of TaylorMade's biggest challenges, because most golfers identify 14 degrees with a strong 3-wood, not a driver.

"This is all about lofting up," said Tom Kroll, TaylorMade's global product manager. "The only way to truly pick up distance is to do this. It gives us a higher ball speed."

Kroll was referring to TaylorMade's low and forward center of
gravity, which, according to the company, is the catalyst for additional clubhead speed and ball speed. This extra speed, along with increased carry distance, is attributed to reduced spin combined with higher loft.

The 14-degree driver, like the SLDR models before it, has a sliding weight in the sole with 21 weight positions. TaylorMade says the sliding device promotes up to 30 yards of shot-shape adjustment.

Are taller players more dominant on the PGA Tour? When I attend PGA Tour events, it seems most pros are not tall at approximately 5’10”, and wiry like Special Forces soldiers. Though, it is generally accepted taller golfers, with longer levers, have an advantage in driving distance, shorter players are able to contend by winning the battle on the greens.

Looking at the PGA Tour data from 2013, of 180 players on Tour in 2013, the 10 tallest players averaged a finish of 111th on the money list. Funny enough, the 10 shortest players also averaged 111th at the end of the season. For the rest of the story, check out GolfWRX, http://bit.ly/19nFNMO.

It is generally accepted that taller golfers have an advantage when it comes to driving distance on the PGA Tour. Lydia Ko, 16, turned professional in October, and signed with IMG. Ko joins an IMG stable that includes LPGA players Paula Creamer, Jessica Korda, Beatriz Recari, Michelle Wie and new LPGA player Jaye Marie Green, who won LPGA Q-School.
