A piano revival effort today, seen in this survivor. My dream chaser took me on a road trip and found this old hippie …a bit tattered and torn - the new millennium hard on it, this 1967 Kawai piano is needing some love. This is an excellent built piano in this time period and it still shines through these passing years.

Here is a picture of a 1970's Yamaha upright action. By leaving the aged bridal straps attached, we hope to save some money for this client. Common failure on these is the cord that retains the hammer return spring. New set of hammer fl**ges with cord, resurface hammers, install action, realign hammers, voice and this customer said the piano had not worked so well since 1989 - I believe it ! {Before and after photos} Take note of this as replacement of the fl**ges or re-cord is expensive. You may want to think twice prior to purchasing one of these corded fl**ge pianos.

While arriving at a tuning the other day, I said to the owner "This piano is in great shape and I am feeling like this is my work on your piano " Further servicing identified my feelings to be correct. 28 years after replacing damper pads, resurfacing hammers, straps and regulation, this old Ludwig piano is still doing great. This was a really good feeling and I certainly left feeling proud of my work.

Coming into 'the season" typically brings a reflective time for me. Today I have been reflecting on pianos as I repair a misfit piano for lack of good sense. This piano was wheeled across a parking lot and pushed to a dumpster - unwanted. I saw it when working at the location and I knew a couple things - one the garbage guy was not going to take it so a slow and painful deterioration was eminent. The second thing I knew - it was a cute little 64 note piano and I knew it was older as well. Certain was I knew what to do with it so I loaded it up alone, took it home, put it in the garage and this weekend after 7 years - I am repairing it. It is not worth the time and expense of parts and labor for resale but on this weekend, I wanted to give back to the pianos. In the past I have fixed and sold a piano during this season for many years. They have been good to my family and I love them ! 1954 Melody Grand 64 note piano.

I love tradition. This is maybe year 30 of tuning the piano for the Scottish Dancers at the Belfast Legion Hall. The Dancers have a party every Memorial Day weekend which is also my birthday weekend. The Scottish Dancers, this building and this piano are special to me now and I have never and will never raise the price of their tuning. Here's to tradition, a way of life and the summer of 2017.
