40 years ago today, DIO released their metal masterpiece, HOLY DIVER. Even though it was the first of 10 albums in Ronnie James Dio's distinguished solo career, Holy Diver represents a collection of songs that are widely considered to be the finest in the DIO catalog. Oddly enough, Ronnie was always very candid about the fact that he originally hated "Rainbow in the Dark," and even threatened to destroy the master tapes with a razor blade because he thought it sounded too "poppy." Luckily for us, the band convinced him that the song had potential, and in doing so, salvaged one of the greatest anthems in metal history. May the light from Ronnie's rainbow continue to shine upon us all. 🤘 🌈
