I can see the finish line. The last step before I start the first coats of finish. Have the press all setup to press in the brass ferrules, sand paper all laid out. Now just have to find where I put the sander.

From 1902 to today.
There is something incredibly grounding about working with wood that carries a story. This material was harvested from a historic ranch out west founded way back in 1879, and salvaged from a calving barn raised in 1902.
Holding a piece of history like this in the workshop is a true honor. Every ring tells a story of the elements, the old West, and a century of hard work. Now, it’s getting a second life—repurposed into something new to be passed down and cherished by the next generations.
History isn’t lost; it’s just being reshaped.

The handle is officially fully shaped, which means Stage One of the build process is in the books!
Now, it’s time to transition into Stage Two: selecting the perfect hoop woods. Next up, I’ll be matching the grains and colors to the handle, prepping the strips, and getting everything glued up and attached. The entire hoop assembly and the handle integration happen simultaneously in one critical glue-up.
