The mullein has been gathered, dried, and now the magic begins. 🖤🌿🔥

I’m making Mullein Torches — also known as Witches’ Candles, Hags’ Tapers and Jupiter’s Rods — that will be available for The Good Earth Trading Post September Awakening • Our Monthly Shop Opening • Third Weekend of Every Month

Each one will be hand-dipped in wax and dressed with organic herbs and botanicals, making every torch its own beautifully wild little piece of folk magic 🖤

Burn them for ritual, cleansing, protection, release, ancestor work…or simply because lighting a giant flower-covered stick on fire feels like exactly the kind of Witchcraft we need more of.

Arriving just in time for Mabon/Autumn Equinox and Samhain rituals, ceremonies and celebrations ✨️🍂🧹🔥🖤🌙

Lets talk mala's people!! Specifically the handcrafted Maya Devi Beads mala's here at The Good Earth Trading Post. These are pretty damn special!

Each is created with intention by Ryan in his Gettysburg, PA studio. Prior to stringing, the beads are placed in a singing bowl and anointed with water and soil from Maya Devi—the sacred birthplace of Buddha in Lumbini, Nepal. Yes! Ryan took the time to research and source the soil and water from Maya Devi.

Traditionally, malas are used in meditation to count breaths, mantras or prayers, helping quiet the mind and keep you grounded in the practice. But they don’t have to live only on the meditation cushion.

Wear one because it centers you. Because the weight of the beads in your hand brings comfort. Because it reminds you to breathe, return to yourself and move through the world with intention. Or simply because it’s a beautiful, soulful piece of wearable art. Ryan’s malas are all of those things at once. ✨

I personally have 5 Maya Devi Beads mala's and I'm currently eyeing up a couple that are in the shop ☺️ They'll be 20% off at our Awakening.

I told you recently about walking into The Good Earth as a five-year-old little girl in 1975 and somehow knowing that place mattered.

It got me looking through 18 years of old shop photos. These are pieces of my retail history. Different shops. Different years. Different versions of me.

And yet the same thread runs through every damn one. Old things given new purpose. Furniture used in ways it was never intended. Jewelry mixed with books and pottery and strange curiosities. Layers upon layers. Things hanging overhead. Little treasures hiding behind bigger treasures. History rubbing elbows with art. Beautiful things that weren't necessarily beautiful in the conventional sense.

I wasn't copying a shop I remembered from childhood. I remembered how it made me feel. Curious. Comfortable.
A little enchanted. Like I had wandered somewhere different from the ordinary world and there was absolutely no telling what I might discover next.

For 18 years, apparently, I've been building that feeling over and over again. And maybe that's why finally becoming The Good Earth Trading Post feels less like creating something new...and more like coming home.

These incredible kantha blankets just landed at The Good Earth Trading Post from the same maker who creates my upcycled T-shirt + kantha tops — and LOOK AT THEM!

Hand-stitched, beautifully imperfect, ridiculously colorful and completely reversible, with complementary kantha on each side.

No two have the same personality. No boring beige mass-produced nonsense. Just layers of pattern, color, texture and that wonderful "somebody actually made this" feeling 🧡

Maybe you’re new here and wondering why the hell a little shop sitting on a small homestead outside Littlestown is called The Good Earth Trading Post.

Well...this rabbit hole goes back about fifty-some years.
I was FIVE years old.
There was a little shop in a small shed called The Good Earth in Eldersburg, MD and five-year-old me was fu***ng enchanted with it.

I didn't have words like earthy, bohemian, spiritual, artisan or feral little weirdo yet. I just knew that place felt different. And I never forgot it.

That little shop took up residence somewhere in my brain and it paid rent for the next five decades by influencing every version of my shop through the last 18 years.

It took me most of my damn life to realize I wasn't simply remembering The Good Earth. I had been finding my way back to it. Not to recreate somebody else's shop. To create my version of the feeling it gave me.

So here we are.
The Good Earth Trading Post.
Built by the grown-up version of a five-year-old girl who wandered into a weird little earthy shop and apparently thought: Yeah. This. Remember this. And goddessdamn...she did.

Side note...Years later, when I started dating Dan, I told him about this little shop from my childhood that had somehow stayed lodged in my head all those years. And then came one of those weird little life clicks I love so much: Dan’s aunt and uncle had owned The Good Earth.

Of all the people I could have fallen in love with, I somehow ended up with the nephew of the people who owned the shop that enchanted five-year-old me. You can make of that what you will. I know what I make of it. 😉

“I found my people.”

We heard that over and over this weekend—and I can’t think of anything that better describes what this little shop has become.

You came through the doors from all walks of life. Earthy souls. Artists. Witches. Collectors. Seekers. Hippies. Weirdos. Storytellers. Quiet ones. Loud ones. People looking for beautiful things and people who simply needed a place where they could exhale and be exactly who the hell they are.

Sales were great, and believe me, we are grateful. But the conversations? The laughter? The stories? The connections happening all over the shop? That fed my soul.

Thank you for finding us. Thank you for bringing your beautiful energy into this space. Thank you for becoming part of this beautifully weird little community we’re growing out here.

We've got some restocking to do so we’ll be busy getting The Good Earth Trading Post ready to awaken again next month. 🖤 September 18, 19, 20
