When you were a child, perhaps you found sanctuary in the boughs of a sturdy tree, imagined fairies or forest beings in its shade, or breathed in the sweet smell of pine. Maybe you collected stones that caught the light, warmed your palm, or skipped across the surface of a mountain lake. I believe these experiences are old ways carried in all of us, no matter where we come from. In my work, I seek

to honor the wisdom and presence of trees and to celebrate the unique character and energy of each stone. Through wire-sculpted trees and handcrafted gemstone jewelry, I hope to create pieces that help people feel grounded, supported, and surrounded by a touch of beauty.

Every sculpture begins with the stone. I never know exactly what will emerge until the work is nearly complete. When I found this remarkable piece of black onyx, I wondered what tree of life sculpture could possibly possess enough strength, beauty, and vibrance to be worthy of it. As Radiance emerged, I was astonished by her grace and quiet power, and grateful for what had come to life through my hands.

Rooted in earth and reaching toward light, this Tree of Life suncatcher was created with gemstone foliage of peridot, amethyst, and golden rutilated quartz — a reflection of wild beauty, resilience, and connection.

I’m honored to have donated this piece to the Douglas Land Conservancy for their upcoming Under a Wild Sky online auction this August. Proceeds support the protection and stewardship of Colorado’s open spaces, wildlife habitat, and ranchlands.

Here's my fancy photo studio! 😜 I've tried photo boxes with lights and taking it outside. This works best for me: morning light coming in two corner windows, contrasting background poster boards and a tripod with a bluetooth clicker.

MANAIA

A patron of ROX Arts Gallery brought me a new challenge yesterday: creating a necklace for this stunning manaia carving.

This traditional Māori manaia is carved from pounamu (New Zealand jade) with paua shell (abalone) eyes. The manaia symbolizes the head of a bird with the tail of a fish or serpent and is believed to serve as a spiritual messenger between the earthly realm and the world of spirit — representing protection, balance, and connection to the unseen.

Traditionally, manaia are worn on braided cords with sliding knots.

Now I’m deciding how best to honor this beautiful piece…

Do I:
• keep it traditional with cord
• create a simple woven bail for a chain
• or fully wrap the pendant in wire?

Part of me feels the carving itself is already complete and shouldn’t be overshadowed.

A new Willow Tree of Life begins…

This commissioned piece is taking shape on a stunning raw amazonite stone from Lake George, Colorado — hand-selected by my client for its beautiful color and natural form.

For the foliage, we chose a flowing blend of moonstone, amethyst, emerald, fluorite, and aquamarine gemstone chips to create a soft, luminous willow canopy.

One of my favorite parts of commission work is collaborating to create something deeply personal and completely one-of-a-kind. I can already feel the spirit of this tree emerging, and I’m excited to bring it to life.
